While Onyenwere led the team in that department, Drummer and Burke were #2 and #3 by a WIDE margin and both are gone. I don't think Onyenwere can do it by herself, can anybody else on the roster do the same thing? If not they better start shooting a whole lot better (.414 overall and .306 from 3)."

UCLA's shooting percentage is not where it should be considering their talent level, and this is partly because their offence doesn't generate the high percentage shots that a well run offence provides....Close allows her players more freelance, and more crashing the offensive boards than does Rueck. This yields several benefits - it allows gifted athletes more freedom to be fast, physical and athletic, and it tends to create more defensive fouls, hence more free throws....
My experience is that teams that shoot well from 3 almost always run a structured offence that allows their shooters to square up which allows them to get a higher percentage shot....Obviously a coach must have good shooters to begin with, but if you got 'em you gotta get 'em good looks.
A 3 is not a 3!! Some 3s are bad 3s and UCLA takes a lot of them. So does USC. Stanford & OSU not nearly so much.
Close is working hard at developing a more consistent, structured offence, while at the same time allowing room for the premiere athletes she recruits to strut their stuff....Right now she's just not there....But she probably will be eventually....Just as players make improvements in their game over a few year period, so also do some coaches....
I know several UCLA boosters and they all are believers in UCLA WBB.....But to a man, they believe Rueck is the superior coach...
GO BEAVS !!
