She was 1st team all-state 4A at Valley Catholic this year. Also, I also found this, from 2017-18: “Noelle Mannen Valley Catholic senior Like most point guards, Mannen leads her team in assists. But she also leads the Valiants in points, rebounds, steals, charges -- “everything,” said Valley Catholic coach John Innes. She was second team all-state as a junior and this season she scored 41 points in a game to set a school record. “I think she’s the best point guard in 4A,” Innes said.” www.oregonlive.com/sports/2018/02/top_point_guards_in_oregon_hig.html

Exciting! All the chatter about how well ranked or how many stars potential recruits might be for 2020 and then BOOM we have a new guard on the team! Excited to learn more about Noelle.

Thanks beaverwbb fan. Looks like Taylor Jones grew an inch and is now listed as 6'4"! (wonder if that includes another inch for her purported 7'2" wingspan? If she really does have a 7'2" + wingspan, she would be playing in some ways like a person who is 6'8" to 6'9" tall! Looking at pictures of her it does look like Taylor has very long arms and legs. Noelle is 5'6" and looks to be built like Destiny. I don't know anything about her except she is purported to be a point guard. If so it is a good idea to sign one this year to give them a couple years to learn from Aleah and Destiny.

Is Noelle Mannen on scholarship? Walk-on? Apparently Coach believes she brings a lot to the team for her to earn a spot on the official roster... Very impressive !! I hope we can learn more about her and her basketball story....
It will be interesting to see if she travels with the team to Italy....
Maybe her presence will give a shot in the arm to those who believe we are short sighted to recruit only 4 & 5 star players. GO BEAVS !!

We've got really only 2 guards who are good at handling the ball (Goodman and Slocum, leaving out Pivec who I consider a wing). Simmons and Tudor are not at Goodman's and Slocum's level. As far as ballhandling and playmaking, Mannen looks like she has equivalent skills and as a track athlete unlimited energy, just not the height. It's clearly a struggle for Mannen to get a shot off over taller players, but her hands and court savvy look really good. If Goodman or Slocum were injured, I could see Mannen getting some playing time in games.

It was interesting watching her games. Seems like she has good court vision and is strong with her passes. Definitely shoots the three. She seems rough around the edges. She favors going right and her shot mechanics are different. But she cans her shots! Seems to have enough speed for point at our level Give her some time focused on refining her game she’ll be a help to our squad. Could give us some good minutes I think.

I have always felt that with respect to basketball, a players height means very little. Their reach is what is important. Some players have very long necks and short arms. I remember Kevin McHale was generously listed as being 6'11", but he had a very short neck and extremely long arms. He was impossible to stop in the low post.
Why just height is exclusively given so much importance is beyond me. I have yet to see a player block shots with or shoot baskets using the top of their head.

Let's hope our recent luck with javelin throwers continues. Jamie and Mik are hard acts to follow.

I'm wondering if Noelle is a place holder...not on scholarship yet, but may get one if the highly ranked gal or gals the Beavs is/are recruiting for 2020 is/are a no show in the fall and spring signup periods.

Noelle has a basketball head, a strong work ethic and is a great teammate. I am not sure she has the speed to be able to defend at this level. Great kid.

Scott has given out schollies to walk-ons before - my brain is struggling to remember who the last one was. I doubt there is any real calculation here beyond, "Will she help our program as a walk-on?" She seems like the kind of player that will be awesome to have in practice - versatile and smart. Keep in mind that they only have the scout team available for certain practices - most of their practices are roster-athletes only - so having a player like Noelle to simulate and stimulate is a pretty good thing. If she works her way into some meaningful minutes, that would just be gravy for the team and an awesome experience for Noelle.
