There are some guys that are just baseball players. If OSU doesn't give a guy a chance to pitch and hit, I think it hurts us. It seems like the players will figure it out for themselves (that they can not do both) after fall ball when they arrive at OSU and no later than after their freshman year. But I'm thinking every five or so, you get the guy who is a weekend starter or key reliever and will hit 320 with some power playing a corner outfield position.

Except... why if they aren't seen as D1 as a hitter or pitcher? Really doesn't hurt if the staff is being upfront with a kid. And... hitting at this level is a far bigger jump than having a potentially great arm/ contributing as a D1 pitcher. Not going to look, but how many or of the last 10 frosh hit .320 with power? Hitting at this level takes time and pretty much complete focus. On the other hand we've had plenty of frosh pitchers contribute immediately.

Conforto, Madrigal and I'm not sure who else. I was thinking about in year 3 with those numbers. But I do believe the players know where they are going after the freshman year.

That was just a thought I had, probably not the case at all. What is puzzling, is he was here participating in the Bridge Program with his cohort, Frisch and something happened that caused him to change his mind. Was he homesick? Something suddeny happened that triggered a serious response? One thing not mentioned was OSU initiating the parting of ways.

Brendan McKay did it at the ‘Ville recently.... he’s now pitching in bigs. There was also the kid from UVA that was a good 2-way... mentalblock on game. Mariner draftee I believe. Also Ryne Nelson with ucks... played SS and pitched.
No idea what Gilbert is thinkin. He’s a kid. Kids gonna do what a kids gonna do. Just me.... if he wanted to try 2-way. I’d let him to start. That may not have been way it was.... but I’d let him try if it was.
anyway... wish him best in Knoxville.
