In a previous thread several fans offered their views on Taya Corosdale as a player. Much of this was triggered by a post from another fan who pretty much overstated her abilities as a player. The replies it generated, in my view, offered a more realistic assessment of Taya's overall game.
Let me say here that I am a big Taya Corosdale fan. I love her game, but I have no belief that she will ever earn Pac-12 All Conference awards.
I don't talk with Rueck (just to be clear) but I think I understand a good portion of his basketball mind. So, I have the feeling he is a big Corsdale fan also.
Here's why I think as I do about a solid talent whose game has contributed immensely to the Beavers' success over the past two season,
1. She facilitates the half-court offence very well. She runs the high post smoothly and efficiently (without shooting). Most of the passes that result in back door cuts are delivered by Corosdale. (From a coach point of view, expediting the offence is a big deal.
2. She is an excellent passer with a quick release. (Like quick release shooting, quick release passing is a prized asset at the elite level.)
3. She is a solid, hard working rebounder. Not great, but good.
4. She is a good 3-point shooter (for a 4) - - more importantly, she has a reputation for hitting clutch 3s when they really count. (Somebody here on the board can probably document several of them.)
5. She is a good free throw shooter (for a 4) - not great, but good.
6. It's no coincidence that Rueck kept her in the game 40 minutes (or close to it) in the pivotal Tennessee and Baylor NCAA games in her Rookie season.
All in all, I think Corosdale is one of those gifted "silent players" whose overall game is vital to team success; players who, by merit of the way they play the game, make it easier for the superstars on their team to shine even brighter.
Corosdale is a winner, she's a keeper. I look forward to watching her play for 2 more years....
GO BEAVS !!
