Our pitching coach is once again hanging a cloud of anxiety over his legions of fans. We love the guys he recruits but sometimes the MLB scouts love them as much as we do, and that is not a good thing. We fall in love only to be left empty handed following the June draft.
In 2020, we are looking that scenario square in the face with Jesuit ace, Mick Abel who is the rated the 9th best prep prospect in the land by several BB scouting sites. That equates to a likely early draft selection (first few rounds) and the $$$ temptation that comes with it. Abel is a 6-5+ righty that has touched 95 mph and sits on the low 90's as a high school junior.
Nate and the Beavers have firm commitments from 2 pitchers in the 2022 class that ranked in the top-100 HS prospects nationally. We may end up worrying about both of them.
TYLER GOUGH RHP 6-1, 175 PERRIS, CA. - HERITAGE HS
Plays in the highly competitive Ivy League in the Riverside area. As a freshman this spring, pitched 46 innings with 20 walks and 50 strikeouts. Allowed 11 runs and held opposing hitters to a .148 BA. Was 4-1 with an ERA of 1.67. Plays summer baseball with the elite travel team, Dykstra Baseball. Consistently camps on 88-89 mph but on May 24th of this year, Tyler touched 95 mph on several guns at a Dykstra game. He is currently ranked the #14 prospect on the National-100 with Perfect Game and the #3 best prospect in California.
IAN RITCHIE JR. RHP 6-2, 185 BAINBRIDGE ISLAND,WA. - BAINBRIDGE HS
Pitched as a freshman for the Bainbridge Spartans (16-6 in 2019) - they compete in the Seattle 3A Metro League. In the summer he has played with the NorCal Mavericks and the NW Freshmen Royal. Ritchie locates, has full command of an 87 mph fastball and a tight wrapped 11-5 breaking ball. Ian is ranked #62 on the Perfect Game National-100 and is the #1 ranked player in Washington in the 2022 class. Straight A student to boot.
OTHER RANKED PLAYERS IN THE OSU CLASS OF 2022:
GAVIN TURLEY MIF 6-0, 150 MIDWAY,UT. - WASATCH HS
Smooth infielder with quickness and a compact stroke at the plate.
Ranked #186 on the National-500 and #2 in Utah. Plays summer baseball with the BPH-Black.
BRANDON FORRESTER MIF 5-10, 145 FAIR OAKS,CA. - BELLA VISTA HS
Freshman starter at BVHS. Will join brother Garrett (Class of 2019) at OSU. Speed, a golden glove and a spray hitter that rarely strikes out. Plays summer ball for the California Demons. Ranked #216 on the PG National-500
* These kids just completed their first year of high school baseball. There is a large growth and development period ahead for all of them. Outstanding players for their age.
