Eh, little bad luck sprinkled in.
Hard to expect any team to lose their number 1 and keep trucking at this stage. (Cal). Heck, we lost our #2 (arguably).
Arizona's loss surprised me. Colorado has no excuse, just collapsed. USC doesn't surprise me losing their tough match up by a point. and, nobody really expected OSU to advance. I thought we had decent odds, and unfortunately we couldn't drop our shots today...
But hey, #2 MSU just lost in the opening round. How many times out of 10 does MSU lose that game? it is part of the madness. there is no small amount of luck/catching lighting in a bottle. One off game and you are done.

Northern Iowa's "coug-it" vs. Texas A&M had to be seen to be believed. Up 10 with 31.1 seconds remaining (and the ball OOB). Four straight turnovers (in backcourt) lead to 7 A&M points in the next 11.5 seconds seconds. Northern Iowa finally executes breakaway lob downcourt to go up 71-66 with 19.6 seconds to go. A&M player drives back length of court to score (fouled with an "and one") to make it 71-69 with under 12 seconds remaining. Northern Iowa player gets trapped in corner on ensuing inbound play and tries the ol' "throw it at the opponents leg/foot" (and out-of-bounds) trick. Opponent quickly pulls leg back, grabs ball like it was passed right to him, drives straight to basket and ties it up at 71 with 2.1 seconds left. Game goes to 2OT before A&M finally prevails 92-88. Lone SEC team making it to the Sweet Sixteen. I can't think of a worse collapse than that UNI ending. The only way A&M wins that game is for UNI to throw them assists, and that is effectively what they did. I'm completely detached to UNI, and I'm still replaying what I would have done differently in the same position. Those kids must be in the throes of PTSD today.
