He will be forever remembered in my mind as the Ken Simonton of OSU basketball. WT has been huge, but ultimately it only happens due to the guys on the court. He was the one that WT first called after the hire, and he was the one that made it clear that OSU was where he wanted to be (where some of the others dropped off, that would have helped). He became both the glue and the force that enabled the drought to end, and the laid the foundation that can propel the program forward.
GPII, my hat is off to you. Best wishes at the next level!

I'll second that one.....helped re-kindle Beav basketball.....let's hope his spark will re-ignite the hoops team for years to come. So glad you chose to follow your dad's footsteps here.
Best wishes to GP II in the next level.

His daddy is still may all time favorite Beaver baller, dating back to Terry Baker, Jim Jarvis, and the boys of Slats and Paul. GPII would easily enter my top 5. Fierce competitor who played with a bit of a smile. I truly enjoyed watching him these last 2 years, and hope that he can make the jump to the show next year.

Definitely worthy of a jersey retirement. I don't say that lightly either. He and dad may be the best defensive backcourt if you made an all-time OSU team.

I love how the kid played, but you dint just hand out retired jerseys to 2 year players that are not the best player in the conference, a first-team AA, etc. Daddy was the NATIONAL POY... AC... SJ... Ed Lewis... Counts... Love him but he's not in that class.

Mel Counts, #21: Consensus second-team All-American (1964); inducted into the Pacific-10 Conference's Hall of Honor(2002); holds all-time OSU rebounding records (89 games 1,375 - 15.4 avg.); MVP of the 1963 NCAA West Regional; 1964 NBA first round pick (7th overall). For Mel Counts add Olympic Gold medalist and Pac-12 Conference all time leader in rebounds.

I hear ya all. Maybe he isn't as worthy as I first thought. But we are talking about a 2 time conference defensive player of the year and someone who FINALLY led us out of the wilderness after 26 years. And at one point he was the only player in the entire country to lead his team in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals.
