Corvallis is a NIMBY capital of the world for its size; more NIMBY's than any other town under 75,000 it feels like. Been that way for a long long time.

I too am very puzzled by the reaction to the proposed OSU upper division housing proposal. Would truly allow students to not bring cars. Would likely add more customer traffic to downtown, nearby churches etc. Would create a really nice green space/quad area bordered by a stable community/neighborhood. But to hear the locals talk about it, the one last bit of green space in Corvallis is about to get paved over. Sigh. Many of these people specifically mention they chose Corvallis because it's a college town. Then they buy houses within five blocks of OSU (and downtown) and are shocked to realize that OSU (and downtown) impacts their neighborhood. They like everything about living in a college town except the college. |

You just have to understand..... the world is their oyster..... Corvallis too....
and they want what they want.
