I do not like these kinds of results.... Beating up on an under-skilled team from one of the poorest countries in the world where many communities do not even have a basketball court...
Not sure what a coach is supposed to do in a situation like this. Obviously, it was known beforehand the level of opposition...Well beforehand.
Stomping on a team with obviously inferior talent. Outscoring them 24 - 1 in the 4th.. I take no pride in this victory.

USA U16 Women Race Past El Salvador for 114-19 VictoryI'm guessing that more targets will emerge as Katie (not sure what other coaches are there) watches these young ladies play. A lot of unique talent. Gardiner and Verhulst are the only two confirmed targets, but I don't see how they wouldn't be after Betts, so I have always counted her in the mix. I like Sonia Citron a lot too. I think she would be a tremendous fit here, definitely a Rueck-type guard with great size and shooting abilities. Gardiner would fit the 4 spot very well here. Similar game to Corosdale, but where Corosdale prefers the 3, I think Gardiner likes to bang inside a little more, but shoots the 3 well. 411500 -- Obviously, this game is not very telling, except you get to see a player's skill set against a very weak, probably the equivalent of a below average HS team, U16 National team. I agree that it may have been excessive, but it was bound to happen.

I too am impressed with Verhulst, Gardiner, and Citron. I also like Olivia Miles--great vision, and, is an assist machine with eyes in the back of her head.

Beaver coaches are following a number of these girls on twitter. How many they are really targeting remains to be seen. I know Brian H is folling a few members of Saylor Poffenbarger's family, so I'm guessing there is real interest there.
I'm curious to see if they target any of the international girls they see while there.

I'm curious to see if they target any of the international girls they see while there. If they do, they would likely be Canadians. Every now and then, there is a good Brazillian (Nicoletti was very good, she is at FSU), but for the most part, none of the other teams have OSU level targets.

Katie just has to be absolutely loving her job, right? Beautiful background behind her.

Sonia Citron is very, very talented. Definitely on the coaches radars.

50-21 at the half.
Leading TEAM USA scorers:
#14 Citron: 11 #10 Verhulst: 10
Verhulst has 12, per the boxscore. Lauren Betts already has 10 points and 9 rebounds -- this youngster has no ceiling. Timea Gardiner continues to be very physical inside.

Final score -- 109-44, another dominating USA win.
Some stats:
Payton Verhulst - 21 points (9-19 FG, 3-6 3FG), 2 assists, 2 blocks, 2 steals.
Lauren Betts - 16 points (7-13 FG, 2-2 FT), 16 rebounds, 5 blocks. Would like to see her against a bigger opponent, and Canada has a 6-5 so that will likely happen. . Sonia Citron - 16 points (5-6 FG, 2-3 3FG, 4-4 FT), 2 steals. Very efficient player, and a Rueck type big guard.
Timea Gardiner - 4 points (1-6 FG, 2-2 FT), 6 rebounds. Not her best day, but still has a great motor. Ideal 4-type player in Rueck's system.

Final score -- 98-33, once again the competition is no match.
Some stats:
Payton Verhulst - 19 points (7-11 FG, 2-5 3FG), 3 rebounds, 2 blocks.
Lauren Betts - 8 points (4-12 FG), 14 rebounds (5 offensive, 9 defensive), 2 blocks. Misses some easy layups, but unreal potential.
Sonia Citron - 10 points (5-7 FG), 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals. Continues to be very, very efficient.
Timea Gardiner - 4 points (1-5 FG, 2-2 FT), 5 rebounds. Has not been very efficient, but still young and learning. -- Verhulst continues to be the best player on the floor, very dynamic and complete for her age. Deceivingly agile and athletic. Her sister is a 2020 player who isn't too bad herself. An early verbal from Payton would be great.

Picture of Katie F (from David Verhulst twitter) taking in the action in Chile. You'll need to blow up the pic in the top right corner.
