Add this guy to our 2020 class. Ian Lawson RHP, 6-5 210 from Century HS out Washington County way. I like big strong flamethrowers. But, he's not. At least not yet. He's a project in terms of growing into his build and solidifying mechanics to become more efficient. NW baseball and Gundy baseball have him at 85-88 workouts I saw/was informed of. He has potential but has a ways to go to be a D1 type contributor.

Hopefully his fastball will grow into his body. It's amazing the strides kids can make when they're not the "typical" HS player and get detailed instruction, feedback, and workouts on a daily basis. But, my worry with him isn't potential. Big arms, fast twitch muscles, natural shoulder/arm speed are born. A lot of stuff can be solidified and improved, but top end velo without compromising mechanics is highly genetic. Good news is that he appears to throw harder than he does. Big reach and ball gets on top of hitters quick. But, he won't face great hitters consistently until college.

As 1111 points out, Lawson like Rasica and Hunter in the 2020 class, operates in the mid to high 80's, Thorsteinson has touched 90 and Mick Abel throws in the low 90's. Judging from what we see, Yeski weighs his projections heavily. Where is he now with his velo and where can I take him in a year or two. Quite a few factors enter into that and I think we have been good at it.

Mick Abel has hit 96 on the gun at the very least. A friend is a pro scout, and that is what his radar gun said.
