125
Bresser loses 6-5. Hurts even worse in that on the other side, unseeded Youtsey from Michigan knocks off #6 seed Klimara from Ok State. Brutal start for us. Bresser gets Klimara next on the wrong side of the bracket.
133
Palmer vs #3 seed Zane Richards from Illinois (23-1 on the season). JP gives him all he can handle, has a 4-3 lead, gives up escape in the 3rd. loses 5-4 (assuming on riding time).
149 Joey Delgado vs #11 seed Collica from Ok State. Like Palmer, JD is pretty big underdog going in, sounds like he wrestled him tough, loses 11-8 decision. And we are now 0-3. Welcome to NYC. Hopefully Seth gets us going at 165.
165 Seth vs #8 seed Welch from Purdue. Welch in control early. Wins 13-4.
184 Griego vs #11 seed. Griego loses 15-6
Hwt Dhesi wins via pin.

Yes and no.. Bresser and Dhesi would have been the only 2 favored in the first round. Bresser losing was huge. If he goes 2 and out after projected to be in the hunt for AA.. I don't even know where to begin...
The other guys were pretty big underdogs, Palmer and JD wrestled tough. Griego is a freshman so he'll be back. Let's see who bounces back in consoles.
Everyone is pointing to Snyder vs Gwiazdowski as being the match of the tournament so it would be awesome if Dhesi could spoil the party.

Other teams seemed to pull upsets! No excuses! We seem to have taken a dump at the NCAA's the last couple of years. This is what you wrestle for all year! I hope they can salvage it, but will have to wrestle much better. Dhesi needs to be a finalist! That should have been his goal from the start. He is that good, just needs to keep it going! Go Beavs! Let's see some All Americans!

Let's see some All Americans! Understand what you're saying but is not pulling off an upset underachieving? I wouldn't have realistically envisioned someone like Palmer, Griego or Seth in the semi's for example. They have to get us points in the wrestlebacks. So I wouldn't call it underachieving (yet). But if we have 4 guys go 2 and out. I'll certainly change my tune, that's for sure. RB - absolutely. He needs to figure it out. Dhesi just needs to go one match at a time. He appears to be focused so the sky is the limit. Assuming he takes care of the next guy. Tomorrow morning is going to be a huge one vs Snyder.

I see that Denison is in Madison Square Garden. Touring New York, watching wrestling. Lucky has it rough for a few days. Probably even a tax break.

Just as hoops, you'd rather be on the right side of the bracket, but sometimes "playing" those high seeds on the left isn't a bad thing. At times once a high seed gets a dream crushed they dont compete as well on the left side. On the mat it takes a huge "set" keep battling on that side. That great stuff Beavs.

Great finish to the first day, Beavs! Good luck today (and to all the Oregon State teams).
