Unfortunately, based on her instagram post, she didn’t make the final roster.

The WNBA rosters are so small and teams so few it is extremely difficult to make a team. Especially once you miss a season due to being cut and no other team picking you up. Their training camps do not last long so players find it hard to do enough in that short time to win a spot. I remember players having good camps and still not making a roster. It's like once you get a reputation of being cut you get stereotyped as just a camp body. Coaches would rather go with a players reputation than bring in someone new. It also depends on a teams needs. You have to be really smart when you sign a training camp contract that it is with a team that has a need at what you offer. Once players start getting cut it becomes a self-fulfilling pattern.

My unreliable memory is that she was an excellent student in mechanical engineering and could easily go to graduate school in engineering.

My unreliable memory is that she was an excellent student in mechanical engineering and could easily go to graduate school in engineering. She is probably still making some good money playing overseas. She is with out a doubt still making much more than she would if she were a long term vet in the WNBA. The WNBA in respect to money is just a summer part time job for women players. They only play because it allows them to play at home and since it is exclusive gives them prestige which sometimes increases their value over seas. It also helps their resume once they quit playing for sports related jobs in the states. It is basically a PR gig.

Maria had a good preseason game today--25 min. 10pts 6 rb's. Should help her secure a spot on the team. At least this coach is giving her playing time.

Marie Thank you so much for correcting my mistake. Otherwise no one on this site but you could have possibly figured out that I was referring to Gulich. They might have assumed I was referring to Maria Vadeeva.
