We had season tickets for 21 years. Used to be 8 seats, then it became 4. This year, between the weeknight games, late kickoff times, non-deductible “donations” and generally lousy football, we decided not to renew. Still plan on going to games but want to cherrypick the ones we attend.
I expected a strong sales pitch from OSU with plenty of guilt involved. The call came a couple of weeks ago:
Him: “You haven’t renewed your tickets yet. Want me to help you take care of it now?”
Me: “It was a hard decision but we’re not going to do it this year. Friday night games, late kickoffs, etc ...”
Him: “Okay, I understand. Have a nice day.”
Wondering if the A.D. is waving the white flag and if so, how bad will the crowds be this year?
Any one else have a similar experience?

Pretty simple, our crowds will get better once we start winning.
As far as the non-deductible donations, you know who to blame there. OSU didn't change the tax laws.

Would the guilt trip have changed your mind, or only if they offered you some perks, like an upgrade to club seats for one game or a complimentary parking pass or something? Genuinely curious. I expect Comcast to come with some sort of offer every time I call about my insane bundle increase.

And for the record, I renewed my season tickets for a 14th season. I got an e-mail the other day saying they wanted to thank me with a gift that will come with my tickets.

I’m still waiting for my Ken Heismonton hat for my $100 campaign donation! Yeah....there's a tough line to toe with giving people something extra for their purchases. Kind of erodes the donation if you're taking a portion of that to fund a tchotchke for the donor. I'm not in it for the personal recognition, I just want to watch some football on Saturdays, but for a lot of people I'm sure that perks are what swing the decision for them.

Last year I got several sales calls before the deadline encouraging me to renew. Maybe they aren’t contracting with outside salespeople any longer? The lousy home schedule and ample supply on the resale sites made it a pretty easy decision for our family. Without the tax deduction, the math doesn’t work to be a season ticket holder right now. (Added bonus: the people who sit next to us have driven my wife crazy for years so she’s happy we’ll get to sit in different seats now.)

Yeah, bottom line is pretty easy to follow... lot’s of promises, nothing delivered. I have reached a point where I just want to see a competitive, ‘guess who is going to win’ clump of games. Not happening - and, until it does, I can’t stand the aqqravation. Much, much better things to do, that are far more enjoyable and easier on the heart and mind.

Lousy schedule?
Oklahoma State is the best OOC opponent we've had since Wisconsin in 2012. Stanford and Washington are the two best teams in the North. ASU and Utah are solid South teams. Cal Poly is a step up from the usual PSU drek.
This is one of the stronger home schedules we've had in quite some time, every FCS opponent went to a bowl and UW is the defending Pac-12 champion.
Much, much better things to do, that are far more enjoyable
Just wondering, what is more enjoyable than going to a college football game?

Maybe tailgating with Beaver brothers and sisters before and after a college football game?
Go Beavs!!

The two best home games (OK State and UW) are on Friday nights; very difficult for out-of-towners to get to unless you take a day off work and take kids out of school. Tickets for FCS games can be had for practically nothing. That leaves 3 Saturday home games that are worth going to. In a non-Civil War home year, that’s a pretty lousy schedule to sell.

You mentioned the UW game, so I would love some advice..... My boss, who is a UW alum and lives in Seattle, expressed interest in taking his wife to this game......I have convinced him to Amtrak down and join my wife and I in Corvallis for the game. I am NOT a season ticket holder, but feel some pressure to show him a good time. I understand he has sweet 50 yard line season tix at Husky stadium, so the bar might be high. So - serious question - what is the optimal experience for an early November game at Reser for 4 people, say for under a grand? I note this is Fall Family Weekend, so I don't know how that complicates things...... Should I just buy when single game seats come available? Wait for some season ticket holder to dump their Friday tickets in the ticket forum? Stubhub? My wife is a fair weather type (not as in bandwagon fan, as in "sitting in cold/rain sucks" which is why we don't go often), what location would work best to counter that? If you are an out-of-towner who knows they can't make the game and have sweet seats, I am all ears as well (though of course I will post that in the Tickets forum at some point, especially if that is the route to the "optimal experience"). Thanks for any advice you can give someone who hasn't been in Reser of late.......and is going to have to put up with a UW alum/manager upon his return.....all I can hope for is a reversal to some of the recent drubbings at the hands of the puppies :-). Go Beavers!

The Okie State game is Labor Day weekend. No one is in school yet. It's far better than a Saturday afternoon game, when it can be 90 degrees, like PSU two years ago. Also leaves you a three-day weekend.
