There is a lot of talk here at Benny's House about the number of tall players Coach Rueck has assembled in Corvallis.
Today I ran across a recent article from Mississippi State in which Coach Vic Schaffer, after signing 6'6 Yemiyah Morris out of Cochise College in Arizona, talks about the importance of height in WBB.
If we didn't know better, we would think it was Coach R speaking...Here's a snippet of his interesting interview about height and how MSU cultivates it once they get it.
"You either are or you aren’t 6’6,” Schaefer stated. “She can run, she’s athletic. She’s dunked the ball in a game a couple of times. Those are all intangibles. If you can run, got hands and have size, you’ve got a chance. You can’t never have too many bigs. You win with guard play, but you win championships with size.”
As an aside, when I read: "If you can run, got hands and have size, you’ve got a chance...." the first name that popped into my head was Trish Morris.
At any rate, some food for thought during the off-season..... GO BEAVS !!

Actually coach, they are tangibles.

"can't never"? I hope coach R doesn't talk like that.

Schaefer knows the importance of bigs. He did a tremendous job of developing 6’7” Teaira McCowan into a dominant post force. Much like this year where we had height, but we didn’t have that experienced post player that we had in Ruth and Marie, he will have a few 6’5”/6’6” players, but they won’t exactly have the experience.
