I noticed that Taylor Jones was voted 2nd Team All State in Texas in the USA Today announcements... I mention this because Jones did not have a screaming good year number wise, she plays in an "obscure" (obviously need a better word!!) conference of parochial schools, many of which are mediocre at best..... She may have won on her name familiarity because she is committed to OSU and the Beavs are a national program with high name recognition. Anybody have additional info that speaks to Taylor's selection?? At any rate, it strikes me as an impressive accomplishment..... usatodayhss.com/2019/2018-19-all-usa-texas-girls-basketball-teamGO BEAVS !!

411500, you are very correct regarding the conference/schools she played against, but her personal numbers seemed pretty "screaming good" to me. Her senior year numbers were almost 25 points per game, almost 6 blocks per game, and she led the entire Dallas area in rebounds at 16.3 per game. Her three year HS career (missed on year due to surgery), averaged 19.2 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 4.2 blocks.....acknowledging her lack of competition in the league she played in. Her numbers are better than Kennedy's, but Kennedy's competition would probably be considered better.
Saying that though, I have no insight into her selection. She was highly recruited, and rated high by the services before her injury. Most of that recognition probably came from the AAU circuit.

She was a top-10 player and the top-ranked post by Prospects Nation prior to her injury. They still rank her 16 overall and the second best post. Hoopgurlz ranked her #28 around the time of her injury, and she is #42 in their recent update. Not at all uncommon for a player's ranking to fall because of injury. Not sure she has been evaluated since her injury, but her HS numbers were pretty encouraging. She has skill, length, and athleticism.

rmancarl & beaverwbb fan - - thanks for the additional info.... One thing I like about this board is that if you ask a sensible and answerable question it doesn't take long to receive a sensible answer....Thanks....Appreciate it....

Texas is one of the hot beds for girls basketball, so the Second team in Texas is potentially more impressive than some other states player of the year.

Can anyone tell me what a NAAPS is?
Defensive player of the year, though; right up Rueck's alley. This makes this incoming class even more interesting.

Yep, I was wrong. Defensive player of the year does say something about her, KB also prides herself on her defensive ability. These two playing side by side in the key is very exciting. A lot like Baylor had this year. It may take a year to get there, then again it may not.

NAAPS is National Athletic Association of Private Schools. 2021 recruit Talia von Oelhoffen was the player of the year. She and Taylor congratulated each other!

I'm late to the party on Von Oelhoffen...Not paying attention I guess... Not only was Talia the NAAPS player of the year this year as a Sophomore - -she was also POY last year as a Freshman!! The first Frosh to ever win this award!
There is a helluva lot of WBB talent in small school Washington this year with Von Oelhoffen in Pasco (2B) and Hailey van Lith in Cashmere... Both are national level prospects and it's hard to believe that Rueck and staff aren't all over both of them - in serious fashion....
"Von Oelhoffen was named MVP of the 2B state tournament after leading Tri-Cities Prep to its first state championship. A 6-foot point guard, von Oelhoffen is one of the top sophomores in the country."
Not sure if Talia von O has been to Corvallis for visits or camps....anyone care to add more to my meagre intro to this remarkable 2021 talent.... GO BEAVS !!

Maybe, just maybe our staff has actually seen the level of play in Washington 2B hoops... Having lived in that area at one time have you ever seen the teams Cashmere and TCP play?

Except maybe they have noticed the outstanding play by both players on the national level travel squads or, in the case of Van Lith, on the National Team. Sorry, Baseballll, but it is the national stage where both players have been outstanding.

Yeh, I think it's pretty much common knowledge that the level of competition is low in Wash. 2B hoops. It's also pretty much common knowledge that every once in a while in the basketball universe a star is brighter than its galaxy. From general reporting Van Lith, without question, fits this category. Whether Talia von O. fits, to my awareness, is not as yet completely decided...
The small school kids who don't belong get weeded out quickly in the Darwinian summer leagues..... I think zeroposter summarized the Talia & Hailey situation pretty well in the post immediately above this one.... GO BEAVS !!

Granted... however, my post was in reply to one wondering why OSU's staff didn't appear to have them on their radar. Not a post about the girls in question, nor their talent level. But again, read in to it what you'd like...

Their are both top-5 recruits. They aren’t ranked in the top-5 because they dominate Washington 2B, but because they have proven themselves on the national level.
