ND is pretty much the definition of a perennial powerhouse team ! They lose 5 starters and the are still ranked in next season's Top 10... Of course, they have a proven winner coach, they are a proven destination for 5* recruits, and a landing spot for big name transfers. Plus, they've played in 6 of the last 9 National Championship games. That's a LOT going for them. Add to that gonzo media coverage and you have a program people believe will be good next year no matter who they lose this year.
As I see it, ND & UConn are currently the only WBB programs in the country with that kind of clout. Tennessee used to be, Baylor wants to be.
The exciting thing for us is that Coach Rueck is trying to build a program good enough to get into that conversation.... He's got a long ways to go, but it looks like it will be one helluva exciting trip...
GO BEAVS !!

A ways still to go but he is definitely a lot closer than when he took over.

The only thing I would fault Notre Dame's program for is the guy they've hired to announce their games. Those who watched the Vancouver tournament will recall that he hadn't bothered to learn the correct pronunciation of Grymek, Pivec, or even Rueck - and this was hardly the first time the two programs had met. When a football announcer is faced with a roster that is largely (in every sense of the word) Samoan, and he tries his best to pronounce the names, one can empathize with him. This guy had a dozen names to learn, most of them 2 syllables, and made zero effort to get them right. Wouldn't have been surprised if he had mispronounced Washington. After all, that one's 3 syllables.
Totally unprofessional.

Dennis Erickson always said "Warshington" for Washington. And he grew up there. Never could figure that one out.
