I enjoy watching this tournament, I have been lucky to attend it once. But the religious-like reverence the announcers have for Augusta borders on nauseating. It’s all orchestrated by the Masters committee of course. t’s a beautiful venue and a great tournament, but geez...

So over the top with the tinkling piano music and all the “Butler Cabin”, “Hogan Bridge” and “Magnolia Lane” BS. They really lay it on with a trowel.

Im not a golf expert so I do appreciate informed commentary and interviews from participants. I can, however, do without the purple prose poetry from CBS about “a tradition like no other” .

Awe, all the genuflection to the tournament has become as much a part of the tournament as the ugly green jackets that I wish I were good enough to have won one. Tis a cynical and literal world we live in......

Age doesn't equate tradition.
All of the tournaments you cite have been played at countless locations, at different times of the year. The Masters has been played on the same course since 1934, at the same time every year. The best American players didn't even play the British Open regularly until the mid-1960s.
Maybe St. Andrew's has more tradition than the Masters, but the open is played there only once every five years.
The Masters has more tradition than any other tournament.

Yes it is. And I don't think you believe the US Amateur, the US Women's Amateur, the Canadian, South African or Australian Open have more tradition than the Masters. The PGA is widely regarded as the weakest of the majors, by far.
Most people (I think) believe the Masters to have the most tradition and the one tournament American golfers want to win the most.

The best field is in the Players Championship.

I'll be the voice of disagreement. Maybe it is because I don't watch a ton of golf (but I do watch some of every major and a little of others), but I have no problem with the announcers talking about the majesty of Augusta. The place looks like something out of a fantasy novel, more so than any other course I can remember seeing. And it hits just right at Spring, with flowers blooming and hearing the birds chirp...I think it's a great course to watch and the commentary matches it.
As far as "tradition" goes, I could care less about trying to rank any one major over the other two (the PGA doesn't qualify as a major, in my mind). They all drip with tradition and nostalgia. I like the fact that The Masters is played at the same course every year; I like the fact that the other two aren't. The Open almost feels like it may as well be at the same course every year, because there are so few they play it on. It's a great year when it returns to St. Andrews.
Anyhow...loving The Masters right now. Don't care who wins!
