Great player and financially very smart.
A petition just started for shirt companies to do women's jerseys with names. Started at the uo.
If she went pro now she'd be just another rookie, before shirt royalties exist. Wait a year and she could be one of the first women to ever have their name on a bigtime athletic company shirt.

Petition or no petition, Nike will take care of her and she will get a shoe/apparel contract the minute she completes her uo career. But there is no way the NCAA is going to approve royalty payments to a student/athlete in the next year or so. She will play another year for free. Financially a stupid move. She has a limited time to make money as a professional basketball player. Very few play for more than 10 years. She probably just cut her expected career earnings by about 10%. It's her decision, and I of course respect that. She better hope Tulsa doesn't get the No. 1 pick next year. Not as nice a destination as Las Vegas.

Wonder what kind of signing bonus she will get next spring when she officially signs with nike?
Seriously, it does surprise me that she is not turning pro. I can respect her for that decision though.

I suspect some of this has to do with the Collective Bargaining Agreement being reworked later this year in the WNBA. And yes, I suspect we will see Nike take care of her, not for any underhanded reason, but because she does have a spotlight and following, and it is being aided and abetted by current Nike payrollees.
I spent ~15+ years enrolled in college at various levels (I have 5 degrees to show for it, mind you, so though I was a ten-yeared gradual student, I did end up with the right papers at the end), and SI is at least smart enough to realize that there is no better lifestyle than the college one......
I just wonder if this development will attract players to uo (even one-and-done graduate transfers), or whether any more of her current compatriots will flee.

My opinion as a Beaver is she is a great player that I wish we had signed. The back handed comments are beneath the dignity of classy people. This showed in the dumb yapping about Westbrook and the same here. On the shirt thing I have no opinion. I wish we could focus on our players coming in. Who really is objective or not? I really would like to see less control on offense and better ball movement. We have to learn how to pressure better as well. Now behave with the snarky comments.

It looks like a financially smart move overall to me. The WNBA peaks at $110K/year - many of her academic peers will make that before long. WNBA players make more playing overseas on some cases, but playing year-round is a good way to shorten your career. She is getting way more press this year's tourney run than she's likely ever to get in the WNBA, which has the potential to turn into more endorsement opportunities down the road. While the emphasis on her triple-doubles and potential impact on winning overall may indeed hurt her team's chances of winning it all, it certainly helps her income potential and marketability, and likely helps tstdr's ability to recruit that type of player in the future. Frankly, it's good for NCAA basketball and the Pac-12 that she stayed as well, as it raises the overall media attention. Personally, I think it's great that she's back; beating her is really enjoyable, and now we get at least 2 more shots at it.

Egonescu with her tantrums and boorish behavior is a perfect fit for Eugene.

The one thing I sincerely hope doesn't happen is an injury. There seem to be more and more of these each year, look at Kat or even Cox last night. The schmucks got lucky that Ruthy's wasn't more serious.
