I'm right there with you. I did a slow boil on that one for a long time. It's also my understanding that he had a "no-compete" clause in his contract and took the UO offer anyway. As much as that stung, it's obvious that he doesn't possess the character qualities that we are looking for in an associate head coach. They (tsdtr) got what they deserve and he blends in nicely. Go Baylor (or Iowa)!

I had one encounter with Campbell prior to his leaving. I was not disappointed when he left.

Go Baylor (or Iowa)! I'll have to argue that 'understanding'... in the coaching profession I've never seen a "non-compete" clause that excludes you coaching, let alone coaching for specific teams. It's coaching... contract up, you can go where there is a job willing to have you. Contract not up, almost every one has a buy out.

Great subject title.
Question for me is: I'm assuming he wants to be a head coach and can't imagine at this point he wouldn't get some offers. Is he the kind of guy that would take a lower tier 'work your way up' opening or will he only settle for a job that already has clout? I'm guessing the latter but then again the definition of clout will be interpreted differently.

There’s no such thing as a “non compete” in coaching contracts.

Sorry, I just needed to get that out. Many thought that OSU’s recruiting successes were due entirely to Mark Campbell’s special genius. OSU’s recruiting has only improved since his departure.

Our staff is much better with Jonas, Katie and Brian. Best in the Pac-12 IMO!

Yes, because success is only and unequivocally due to recruiting. Nothing else. No external factors. Auburn men’s staff must have out-recruited North Carolina and Kentucky. In fact, I just had a fantastic budget cutting idea! After letter of intent day, the teams will be awarded the conference championship titles and NCAA Final Four awards and a Champion will be named based on an independent recruiting ranking group. Eliminate travel all together!!

When I read he bolted for more money without giving Oregon State a chance to counter, he became "Slime Dog Millionaire" to me.
I feel (not to be confused with 'know') the primary reason tsdtr wanted him was because of his recruiting relationship with Flopsy Mopsy, aka SI.
Thanks for the tread. I needed this too.
