““Pivec could have gotten her degree from Stanford. The Cardinal, who have reached the Final Four seven times since 2007-08, offered her a scholarship. When coach Tara VanDerveer called after Pivec's visit to Stanford, Pivec told her she was still deciding between Oregon State, Stanford and Washington.
The next day, another recruit committed to Stanford, and Pivec's ride was off the table. Had the scholarship still been available, would it have been a difficult decision for Pivec?
"It probably would have been a little more difficult, but I'm so glad I chose here," she says. "This is the right place for me. All the lessons I've learned, the roles I've had here in basketball — I wouldn't have been able to do at Stanford. Also, the people I've met, and the academic opportunities I've had here ... I'm not sure I could have had as good as an experience there, because I've enjoyed it so much here."

My father in law was a 30 year tenured professor at OHSU who told his kids it didn’t matter so much where you got your undergraduate degree. If the student puts in the work they can get a good education at most any major university. To him in considering post docs for his lab it mattered where they went for graduate school. Over my career I employed many people from Ivy’s or near Ivy’s but also many from Oregon State, Oregon, Virginia Tech various New York State University’s and many others. My experience as an employer confirmed my father in law’s advice to his kids.

To play in front of hundreds of home fans 😐 As usual you have ZERO clue on what you are talking about!!! ZERO OSU's high attendance is a VERY recent phenomena... never cracked the NCAA Top 50 until '14-15 season. Furd has been in the TOP 50 EVERY year since '99-00 season... 2800-4800 fans averaged every year at home games. They are by far and away the premier program in women's hoops in this conference. They are the program every one else hopes to become. PS- ASU, UW, UCLA, Cal and Oregon are consistently seen in the TOP 50 over the last 20 seasons. I believe lil old Montana has been in the TOP 50 for 20 years. Yes, Stanford is historically the touchstone program for Pac-12 WBB. Just like UCLA still is for MBB. Tara is the greatest WBB HC in Pac-12 history, no argument there. But consider this: 12/15/19 (Saturday) #3 Baylor @ #11 Stanford. Stanford W. Attendance 3500. 12/20/19 (Thursday) NR Duke @ #11 OSU. OSU W. Attendance 7060. One can argue that fan support is an insignificant factor in recruiting. That may be true, I'm sure it varies from recruit to recruit. But where fan/community support is important to a recruit, that element is decided advantage to OSU. That's all I'm saying.

EVERY quality program has the fan, family and community support. OSU is a great place... but all fans are bias and like to think their school is the only one with such special qualities. Recruits, especially women who don't have lucrative pro $$ waiting, are extremely savvy. If other top school JUST had winning as their selling point recruits would not flock there. Hence, it is not more a "decided advantage" than other universities with the same qualities and decades of success. That's all I'm saying...
