So the 3rd round is almost set. - Pac-12 finally had a team eliminated; Cal goes down hard to Baylor - Anigwe got into foul trouble defending Baylors bigs, and it was over fast (really, even before the foul trouble). Not many teams can match up with Baylor's front court, making it more amazing how Marie owned them by herself last year. - tsdtr gets to move clear up to a 6 seed in the next round, playing the South Dakota State. My impression is that both Gonzaga and BSU could hang with SDSU, but their early season schedule says otherwise, where they actually a bunch of teams well, except getting blasted by Marquette (but hanging with Baylor, Buffalo and tstdr, and beating Drake). But this one isn't likely to be close. Chalk on the other side of that regional, where MSU will take on ASU. I'd pull for the Pac-12, except I don't want tstdr getting ASU for a trip to the final 4. - UCLA reps well, knocking off Maryland and give UConn a tougher matchup, IMO. Should be a good one. The winner of that gets the winner of OSU-UL. How about we get another Bruin-Beaver game? - Stanford gets an even bigger gift in an 11 seed Missouri State team if they can get by BYU. So far they haven't been able to shake Stanford. BYU is a team that owned the Zags even when they were fully healthy, so they can ball. However, they also lost to Cal and Utah, and some weaker teams in conference, so they haven't been consistent. Looks like the are showing up today though. If Stanford prevails, it'd be 5 Pac-12 teams in the sweet 16. Not too shabby.

Tough break for Miss State, to be a No. 1 seed and to possibly play the No. 2 in a home game for No. 2.
UCLA has the best talent in the league. Amazing athletes.
Are BYU's women 25, 26 and 27 years old like their men's team?
Pac-12 may not win the title but is clearly the best league top-to-bottom.

BYU has a really, really talented freshman in Shaylee (?) Gonzales. She is really, really good. Has 21 of her teams 38 points vs. Stanford at the moment. Arizona and ASU really missed on her.

Also, 2 of of the 4 'non-chalk' seeds that advanced to the Sweet 16 are from the Pac-12 ... so it wasn't just a case of the favorites advancing. A third is from the west (SDSU). Pretty much the reverse of the men's game this year.

If the Beavs lose this week, (And we don't want that to happen!!), they will most likey still leapfrog Maryland to get to the #10 spot. It's unlikely, again , if the Beavs lose, that anyone else in front of them would drop. Iowa and NC State play each other, so one will lose for sure, but they would likely remain in front of the Beavs. So....you only have to take a look at the teams behind the Beavs in the rankings. Syracuse, Iowa St, Gonzaga, Miami, Marquette and Kentucky (teams 12-17) have all lost. The question becomes, what if South Carolina beats Baylor, Texas A&M defeats Notre Dame, or if Arizona State defeats Mississippi St? If those teams win, do they pass the Beavs? I think there is a real shot that at least one of them would.

I watched a video of last season Arizona Sr. All Star game and she really impressed me. Taylor Chavez who went to Oregon was more highly rated, but in that game it was Gonzales who was the best player on the court. No bad knock or reflection on either Arizona or Arizona St's basketball programs, but if you lived in Arizona you might take the opportunity to get out of the heat as well. I think those programs do better with out of state recruits than they do with local players. In respect to Cal getting hammered by Baylor. They could not have gotten a worse matchup. They had no realistic chance to beat Baylor even if they played their best. They were a far better team than Baylor made them appear.
