Watching Women's softball makes me bored. When that ball gets hit off the end of the bat on a half swing and still flies out, it is silly. Way too many home runs and shots that get to the wall before the outfielders can take two steps.

I've been saying for years now that the softball field needs to be made larger. Women now are so much more athletic than they were when the field size was decided upon.
The infield is so small that the players have very little time to react. Every year infielders get injured with ball to the face.

In city league they use a softball with a design to dial down the performance of the ball. If they used this ball the games would be ridiculous.

The infield dimensions are the same as Little League for players age 10-12. The outfield dimensions are smaller than Little League. Bases to 70 feet, circle to 48 feet, fences to 240-250-240. But it will never happen.

This subject came up on the board last year and I was on the fence on it. Speaking of fences, softball fences tend to lack much arc, if any. You'll see dimensions that are 200ft in left, center and right. There are some that are 220ft in center and I'd like to see that as a standard. After the discussion last spring I went to a couple games and one thing that stuck out to me is the catcher's throw to second. Any farther back and it's not going to get there. The throws to second were strong but were dying enough at the end that I don't believe a farther throw would be practical. I'm convinced the bases are where they need to be. I've watched enough games on tv to know that the women love the way their game is. They love the home run ball and are very happy at the amount that are hit. )wish the beavers could hit more :-( I do like the idea in this thread that mba brought up of using a lower energy ball. I've watched balls that I thought for sure were outs get out. Too many against our beloved team. Meerha Nelson is a rise ball pitcher and she's given up a lot of home runs in here career but I think with a lower energy ball she could have had more success. That might even spread the pitching talent out more which would be nice for all teams.
