OSU bid to host this regional several years ago, obviously hoping we'd be in it because we expected to have a strong team. You still have to do the work on the court to qualify, we did not.
As a top-16 seed, we also could not be placed in this 16-team regional pod if another Pac-12 team was a higher seed and ticketed to possibly play in Portland. We needed to win the Pac-12.
So Oregon most likely will be there. Our logo will be on the court and our administrators/staff will run the event. It's considered a resume-builder for some administrators.

My impression is that for MBB and WBB, the "host" is hardly more than the school that submitted the bid. The NCAA doesn't go out and scout for locations - it accepts bids from schools for venues. In principle, we could have submitted a bid for using Gill - it would certainly have been rejected. I believe either Gonzaga or WSU submitted the Spokane bid last year. How much work gets done by the Rose Garden and how much by OSU is something the two negotiate in advance. I imagine for this, the Rose Garden is doing the bulk of the work and we're just being a "liaison" with the NCAA.

University of Idaho has acted as host for the last 3 times NCAA women’s and men’s NCAA Regionals have been in Spokane. I was told by one of officials at last year’s women’s regional that Gonzaga didn’t bid to host because of an old rule that precluded playing in the venue if the team had played there twice in the regular season.
