This is some of the softest officiating I've seen. For both sides. The flagrant on Tres was mind boggling If you know the new rule Tres committed the exact definition of the "hook and hold" under the hoop. It was a good call and meaningless at that stage. Mind boggling was the lack of physical play, being out boarded by what 16, making 13 more free throws, KK with 0/1, 9 points off the bench, and consistently losing games that should be won. PS- anyone else in attendance notice time out demeanor during the last few timeouts?

Anyone else experiencing some cognitive dissonance watching the Duck game, acknowledging that it's actually good for us to have the Ducks win? I can't come right out and root for them, so I turned the channel to the Cal-UW game. But ASU getting blown out in Eugene isn't the worst thing.... This just magnifies the opportunity blown tonight by the Beavs And on the flip side we get a hungier team looking to avenge that loss

LOL! Now UW just gives Cal it's first conference win. We're a DII conference at this point. I said it from the beginning this conference so bad it is Big Sky level or maybe even worse. And here's another unpopular opinion: I'm tired of hearing these coaches' kids names. I feel like we have had the thompsons and tinkles for a decade and have come up short. Really would like a fresh team.

I actually thought OSU was lucky to keep the game close, thanks to FTs. UA came ready to play, was more intense, and has much better athletes. Beavs struggled to get open shots, FT's kept them in the game or they would have lost by 10. UA has guys that can create their own open shot, OSU does not. PAC12 is a complete crap shoot, if UA was more consistent, they would be higher in the standings, but you could say that about every PAC12 team.

There is an effort issue on this team. In football, the team's personality is mostly molded on the head coach's personality. I think it is less so in basketball and more on the stars of the team. Obviously on this team that is in order, Tres, Stevie and Ethan. I have not watched a ton of games this year and I can't say with any certainty, but our big three can be soft. The coaches have talked about trying to Stevie to play with a little anger. And yet, I think he is good rebounding guard. I'm not sure on Tres. I feel his effort is inconsistent. It seems Ethan brings it but he is only #3 and probably feels a little deflated after a poor weekend. But their effort and intensity trickles down to the other guys. How in the world does KK play 23 minutes, get 1 rebound and go 0-3 from the field? Hollins plays 15 minutes and gets 0 rebounds. Reichle plays 22 minutes and gets 1 rebound. There can not be anymore "flat" games. I put this less on the coaches and more on the big 3. This game should have been OSU 78 Arizona 68.

Like them or not, 3 of the better players in the league. Your level of observation is ......questionable!! I also have reservations about recruiting ability after the 3 are gone, that will be THE test of whether WT stays or goes.

There can not be anymore "flat" games. I put this less on the coaches and more on the big 3. This game should have been OSU 78 Arizona 68. While I somewhat agree with that assessment, each player should be trying to get PT based on their own merits. Coaches really notice when players are doing the little things. If you break down that last play, it was a disaster. - Ethan is playing hero-ball defense, challenging his defender at 30 feet and is easily taken off the dribble as a result - forcing everyone else into panic help into the middle of the court. - Tres totally loses his man who is sitting wide open, asking for the ball (somehow Arizona misses this). Nobody seems to be aware of this and is screaming at Tres that his man is unguarded, while he and Stevie double-team an off-ball player. Tres finally figures it out and sprints across the court to his wide-open man, while Stevie drops off his man to help Ethan, even though he's woefully poor positioned to even help. So now, Arizona has 2 wide-open players at the 3-point line calling for the ball. Fortunately, the Arizona player decides to be the hero and try to get to the rim rather than pass to either wide-open player, and we luck into Tres cutting off the penetration simply by him running through trying to get to his man across the court at just the right time. Tres still never looks to actually box someone out. -Alfred inexplicably positions himself OUTSIDE of the player he's defending, putting him ill-positioned to either help Ethan or box out his man. He then inexplicably overshoots to the outside of his man further and is way out of position, trailing his man directly to the basket like he's playing locomotive. As a result, he has no chance to even block out his man, and is in the cheering section as his man puts in the game winner. - Stevie actually is generally positioned fairly well, but is unaware that Tres is doubling his man and isn't communicating that. Then, he's the only guy in position to block out Hollins man, but instead decides he'd rather watch the shot's outcome, and never looks to see if his man is flying in for the rebound either. The only guy that actually plays team defense is Kelley, who has his head on a swivel keeping aware of his man while hedging to help Ethan, then actually moves to block out his man on the shot. He must have learned that playing JC ball last year. 2 guys could have stopped that last shot from happening simply by being in position to make it a fight for the rebound rather than an open catch-and-shoot at the rim if they were just doing what is taught as the fundamental reactions when playing defense. Arizona played that last position terribly and we still give the game to them just due to their hustle. If I were the coach, we'd be doing team defense visual awareness/communication and blockout drills the whole practice today. I know, we internet coaches know it all - but this stuff just makes my eyes bleed.

I only object to including Ethan in the mix for the results of last night. He is the player who kept it close in the first 10 min, he was called for very questionable fouls and then played great defense on the final possession... he can't be blamed, the guy he was guarding missed his shot. The other 4 guys on the floor didn't get a rebound or block someone out... honestly I think Ethan is the best thing we have going to end this year and build on next. Just my thoughts and frustrations the day after the loss that should have never been.
