Just the other day during an interview Rueck said that for the first time in a long time he didn't have a "true shot blocker". 7 blocks in one game, especially against a team as good as ucla, is not bad.

Don't you mean "against a team as short as ucla", whose tallest player is 6'1? It's a bit premature to anoint her the second coming of Britney Griner. In the prior 7 games combined she had a total of 10 blocks for an average of 1.4 bpg with a high of 3. Sunday's stat was more likely the fluke than all the prior games. He was being complimentary to her on senior day.

UCLA hasn’t had another opposing center come close to blocking them 7 times all season. And, as Jo’s minutes per game go up, her blocks per game are also going to go up.

Wow, Thickhead. You can't let anyone praise a player on this board, can you? Why does it bother you so much that somewhere, someone is happy about something to do with Beaver sports?

Just being realistic. I hope Jo can continue to excel and that this was not a fluky performance. It's interesting to note that on a per-minute basis, Morris is as good a shot-blocker as Grymek. Imagine how good a shot-blocker PM would be by now if she had been getting more playing time.

I don't normally try to say too much about other people's comments, but as he said, thickhead is "just being realistic", like his comments about Jasmine coming in this year and being a defensive stopper for the Beavs. Seriously though, that was a great game for Jo, and she's had some really good games as of late. I don't think anyone expects 7 blocks per game for the rest of the season though. I'm a little surprised she played as many minutes as she did this weekend. Not because she didn't deserve it, but because she is not used to playing that many minutes, and that is pretty demanding physically.

Who the hell is comparing Jo to Britney Griner? thickhead isn't being "realistic". He just can't let a positive comment pass unchallenged.

There is no question Jo is steadily improving. Her teammates are looking for Jo, and, Jo is now working hard to get position to receive the entry pass. On defense, she is much better at anticipating penetration into her airspace. In addition to the 7 blocks, Jo changed numerous shots in the UCLA game. And I like how physical Jo has become. She nearly ripped off the head of UCLA's Drummond in one rebound attempt. I would like to see Trish Morris get some more minutes this weekend, should we need Trish to replace Jo due to Jo getting in foul trouble when tournament play comes around.

And, just to be realistic, Jo had more blocks against the Bruins than any other Pac-12 TEAM has had against them. Also, to be realistic, Jo has the highest Shooting % in the Pac-12.
And more realism would be that if Trish had been left out on the court more earlier in the season her confidence would be shot from being scored on over and over because she would not have been ready for it. You don't learn how to play ball during a game, you learn in practice. Then you take what you've learned and figure out how to use it in a game. Trish's progress is from practice and it's been great. I hope she's proud of her growth because it's been fantastic.

I have not insulted anyone in this thread, yet you pull out a totally irrelevant post from me where I was mistakenly optimistic about Jasmine's first-year performance, apparently in an attempt to embarrass me. Why? And Skrimshander throws out "negative Nancy". And bennyskid deliberately misconstrues my reference to Britney Griner as being intended literally. I understand that these discussions will tend to draw in people who have the most extreme views and who are naturally argumentative, while the relatively mild-mannered readers are content to just watch, and that is clearly happening here. Can't this board be utilized without throwing out insults? Insulting behavior just spawns the impulse to create insulting retorts, and it keeps going on, and on, and on.

Note that Jo played 21.5 minutes/game her freshman year and 25.7 minutes/game her sophomore season at Seward, according to these stats. Stands to reason she may have played some ~30 minute games to get to those averages, but to your point, likely not over the weekend like she has here. I just like the way she is peaking at the right time - we had a center last year who really came into her own towards the end of the season, and that went well for us. Go Beavers!

Jo is starting to play with confidence and some aggression which is really helping the team. The emergence of her and Aleah has been so enjoyable to watch. Rueck just gets the best out of his players.

As I've said several times before, Jo just needs to be the best Jo possible. That is all the coach asks of her and I'll follow his lead. She doesn't need to be Ruth, Marie, Griner, or anyone else.
This is not about just one game either, she played important minutes and made important plays the last couple weeks. If she doesn't get the block she challenges the shot and makes them change their shot.
