Culver won it 12th state championship in 13 years with one 3-time winner. LaPine won the state championship with one 3-time winner. Crook County moved up to 5A and finished second missing by a point and a half. Mountain View moved up to 6A and finished 4th. Some fine wrestlers east of the mountains.

You are correct in that there are some outstanding programs and wrestlers in Central/Eastern Oregon, but not many of them are D1 types other than Ohlson of Mountain View. He should be nationally ranked soon. The other really good one in the bunch is Vasquez of Culver. He's going to SOU next year. Hoping the coaches are watching Newberg as well. 3 freshman (2 champs) and a soph in 6A finals, Russo has a powerhouse program there...
Interesting team races this year. Crook would have won 5A if not for a big injury and a suspension down the stretch, but awesome job by CV going 5 for 5 in the finals, needed the pin by the heavyweight to win it all and they got it. Roseburg wins 6A without having a single champ.
Too many wrestling classifications IMO. 50% of 3A wrestlers qualified for state this year. I'd like it if they went something like 6A, 5A/4A combined, 3A/2A/1A combined...

Big boys won't like. Little Culver kicked some big boy ass again this year during the season😂 Every year! The great thing about Culver is that you'll see them at the big tourneys holding their own. They've been going to the Sierra Nevada and Resers TOC for a while now. 2 years ago they took 5th at Resers - that's not an easy tournament..

You are right that not many of them are D1 types but it would be real interesting in the room if Coach offered a serious walk-on to those going to OSU. As is, Son. if you want a shot, come show us what you can do. I learned that swimming. If you keep touching the wall first, coach don't care about the other guys' dossiers.

I think that's the case right now. The top tier D1 types are leaving the state and we have a bunch of in-state kids from that next tier as walk-ons. Maybe we will strike gold with a couple, but so far not so good...

Not to be harsh, but how many "True" D1 types do we have now???
