For anyone who may have insight.
PB won at Fox. He's obviously a good coach. How may he be different in his approach then PC and will Nate have more or less say in the new (sorta) era?
Thanks

So far, Bailey looks to be Pat Casey's short twin. There appears to be a couple of subtle differences, but that may just be due to the fact that so many newcomers have to produce. Bailey is giving guys a lot of second and third looks. One would quickly know they were in Casey's doghouse. Again, so many positions to fill mandate the different approach.
Bailey is constantly talking to Jenkins in the 3B box. Jenkins is getting plenty of exercise walking over to the dugout. The first game, Bailey took the positioning clipboard away from Gipson, and he was directing the positioning as always. Lol. Pure nerves as Gipson hadn't goofed.
Nate is totally the guy with pitchers. Though Bailey obviously has input and knows exactly what is going on with pitching, Nate has the call I think.
Jmho.

Through the first 4 games of the Coach Bailey era, I give him credit for knowing when to pull the strings. Especially when judging how to use our bench; they had good success. The real test is that first long series against Nebraska. 4 games against the same team means that both sides get long looks and to win all 4, even if the fuskers are not a great team (Nebraska is 3-1 with a RPI of 125 and a Warren Nolan ELO of 66), is a challenge. Nice to know we have started out hitting the ball well, and our pitching seems to be finding its groove early.

That should change. Nebraska went 1-1 and was outscored by Riverside at a neutral site last year, so going 3-1 against Riverside in Riverside shows improvement (or that Riverside has fallen off a bit). Oregon State won the two games in Surprise last year against Nebraska by seven and eight runs.

No poll numbers at this time mean much - but last season we looked really good in Arizona and that carried through the rest of the season; this year, so far we are looking really good in Arizona......

Thanks I coached completely and worked a bunch with Coach Bailey and Coach Casey for many years. Coach Bailey is a quality, quality coach. We are in great hands just like when Coach Casey was at the helm.

Are we still sort of running with the idea that this is really just a sabbatical year for PC, and that PB is really just the interim?

Are we still sort of running with the idea that this is really just a sabbatical year for PC, and that PB is really just the interim? That'll obviously be the biggest elephant in the room during the 2019 season. However, whether it's Casey, Bailey or Yeskie in 2020, I'll feel pretty good about the direction of the program. Personally, I can't see any great need to conduct a huge search for an outside guy should PC not come back next year....if it ain't broke, no need to mess with things by bringing in someone unfamiliar with the inner workings of the current juggernaut program.

Hey it worked that 1 time /s

I have a strong feeling we will see the return of Casey next year, but if not then Bailey’s job will depend on the success of this year. Personally I would rather have Yeskie but I’m sure if he got the job Bailey would leave. I believe the reason he didn’t take the Mariners job was because Casey was molding him to take over the program. From my understanding Yeskie & Bailey bump heads. It’ll be very interesting to see how this plays out.

There is another thing to note on Bailey. He is THE recruiter. I made a mistake the other day at the stadium. A lady came up to greet my dog, and I started talking about Bailey and the coaches. She chewed me out for suggesting that all the coaches were good recruiters. It turns out her son is on the team, and she said 95% of the players are Bailey recruits or he closed the deal. Her son turns out to be a CWS pitcher of some fame, so I take her word on recruiting Lol.

Assuming you're talking about the young man who won game 3 of the CWS Championship series last year: I seem to remember PC talking like he was really, really surprised that Abel came to Oregon St. instead of going through draft straight out of high school.

Here's a hypothetical: Let's say the Beavs repeat in 2019. PC decides to come back at the end of the season and head coach again. Will PB become the first college HC in any sport to win a national championship, only to get demoted to an assistant the following year? How does that scenario play itself out?

It was about his life, his faith, the Beaver baseball program, and his recruiting style. Listening to his approach about recruiting was very insightful, and seeing your comment that he is THE recruiter, I believe it. He made mention that parents spend thousands of dollars on these recruiting websites to expose their kids to the college and professional ranks. He chuckled and said "Don't waste your money. If you're kid is good enough, we already know about him...and so do other schools." And the other thing he pointed out was recruiting character. His and Casey's job is to build men..not just baseball players. He said that they had a top 10 recruit and probable 5th round pick come to Corvallis for an official visit a few years ago. He and Casey met with the young man and his parents, listened to them, and after they left, Casey asked him "Well, whatdya think?" Bailey told him "Heck of a player, but his attitude and demeanor is not a good fit for this program." So they didn't offer him. That really spoke to me. It's a short season thus far and virtually impossible to see how it will play out, but with Casey not currently at the helm, I feel like we're in good hands with Bailey. IMHO.
