Base, everything you say about the end is correct. And I about s%#t myself when they fouled that 3. But you did spend at least 30 secs celebrating the win didn't you? I'm there every game... trouble celebrating tonight as I sat next to a couple given tix and it was their first college basketball game. Answered a LOT of questions tonight... then at the end they were very talkative. Luckily my left ear works while my eyes watch, and I can answer while leaning left still watching. |

In the final 9.4 seconds, we were 6-for-6 from the line, forced a TO on an outstanding defensive play by Goodman that caught SI completely off-guard, and forced a missed shot that instead was called a phantom foul. That hardly sounds like a poorly-executed final 9.4 seconds. The one thing we could have done better is foul SI before she got her 3-pointer off. But UO ran a nice play to free her up; AG was late getting through the screen. Sometimes the other team makes a nice play, especially when they are the No.2-ranked team in the country, and it was reward by the phantom foul, as AG clearly did not touch SI as she ran by in an attempt to make a play. Even up two, as you suggest by giving them two opportunities from the line with a 5th foul, we still have to get the ball in-bounds, with no time outs. And you're counting on someone to make two free throws for the four-point advantage, no sure thing. Or, uo probably makes the first shot and intentionally misses the second. With Sabaly out there, there's no guarantee we'd even get the rebound. First, you count on people making free throws in EVERY tight game, and we had to make them in either fashion. And, you also EXPECT to be able to inbound a ball... we have inbound plays for that. You don't expect not to be able to inbound a ball because it happens once in a while. Secondly, the pass did not go directly to SI, there was a chance to foul another player before she even touched the ball. Third, making foul shots is not executing a game plan as such. Floor play and execution isn't making shots. Execution is getting good shots or on the other hand preventing them. We gave Oregon extra possessions they should never had gotten. AND, we ended up having to go 6-6 because of the poor execution. We really should only had to go 2-2 and game was over. Your "what ifs" are pretty funny... assuming we can't make a free throw, inbound a ball, and get a rebound. |

I also have to agree with Baseball. We had 2 fouls to give with 9.4? Seconds to go. Foul on first receiver of pass. Twice. And for gosh sakes, let the Princess shoot that 3 if you are late establishing position, especially if you know she has a habit of splaying or flopping and getting the call almost 90% of the time. She may miss the 3, but doubtful she misses any free throws. Anyway we got the win, and a great team win it was. Bring on the LA schools now. Go Beavs.

Assuming that someone is going to make free throws, or get the ball in-bounds, is a pretty funny "what-if" as well. You can "expect" until the cows come home, but quite often free throws are missed and 5-second counts happen in the final seconds of close games. So I'm not "assuming" anything, because quite often what you "assume" - that free throws are made, etc. - doesn't happen.
On the play in which SI was fouled, the ball went to Saboly who got rid of it before anyone could foul her. Again, a good team made a nice play. It happens.
And sorry, making free throws is executing.
We just disagree. We're both happy we won, and I'll leave it at that.

Aleah fouls i at the end of the first period, it was an aggressive and physical foul.
End of the game Aleah rushes i and forces i into a traveling turnover. This just after Aleah gets a bs foul called on her over a textbook flop. I think Goodman got into her head.

Did anyone else notice Hebard coming out after the game and thanking the Duck fans for their support? They lost, she's hurt and can't finish the game, and she comes out and says thanks for supporting us. How cool is that. First class lady!
