That was BOLD. But I think there is something to learn from this. Jazz was ranked very highly coming out of Australia, and we had seen her average great numbers in a few different leagues. You simply cannot expect a ton from a freshman - you can't. I don't care if they are the #1 recruit, a McDonald's All-American, have 3 gold medals, and scored 4,000 points in high school. Even among the top ranked in the class of 2018, they aren't all having the impact fans at their respective schools had envisioned them to have. Sure there are exceptions, such as Kentucky's Rhyne Howard or Chennedy Carter (we all know her) last year. If they come in and start or give 5-10 points a night - great. If they spend a lot of time on the bench - that is just part of being a part of an elite program.
I want to have high expectations for Taylor Jones and Kennedy Brown, but I am working hard to hold them back - but they are still there. They need to be given time to adjust, especially posts who aren't used to seeing 6'4" and 6'5" every night, then if they are ready it is a plus. UConn's Olivia Nelson-Ododa was ranked #5 in 2018 and the #1 post. She has struggled mightily at times this year. But then there are also freshmen posts like N.C. State's Elissa Cunane who are playing quite well, but wasn't ranked as highly. Potential is also a big part of certain rankings, which is why Aquino was ranked so high despite being far from polished. It is really tough to tell who will be ready and who won't. I sure do hope Jones/Brown are.
