Recently I was reminiscing about the great players during the Scott Rueck era( Sydney, Jamie, Ruth,Marie).
I believe that in my opinion Gabby Hansen might have been at the top of the list. Yes, I know she was not much of a scorer (although during her career she came up big in the clutch on offense many times).
The way she played defense and totally shutdown really good opponents (Kelsey Plum, etc., etc.) was brilliant. Defense gets overlooked completely but her ability to clamp down on the other team's top scorer, point guard, or whatever was often the difference between winning and losing for the Beavers.
Would be interested to hear from other Beaver fans with their opinions.
Go Beavers!

G Thank you for your recognition of the finest defensive player in the PAC-12 (for more than the 1-year she was recognized as PAC-12 player of the year). Gabby's defensive performance game in and game out won a lot of games for OSU during her tenure. You are correct, that defense is often overlooked, but not at OSU. I sure hope the Beavs defense continues to get better starting this weekend.

Does anyone know how she is doing with her back? My memory is that her doctor recommended that she not play her last year.

Gabby was awesome no doubt. Oh BTW it’s Hanson, not Hansen.

Don't forget the other player from that era that helped get things started...Deven Hunter. Deven wound up as the #4 rebounder at OSU.
