Lucas dropped 52 tonight passing the likes of Demar Derozan, Tracy Murray and Casey Jacobson....strange he's only a 3*.....Wayne got a good one without a coaches last name.....who'd have thunk it? Franklin and Hunt added to the mix.....I like our backcourt depth next year.

Fought through some aggressive defense. There’s a couple videos of him fighting through double and triple teams tonight.

LOL! I guess we know why he scores a lot from the FT line. That looked like Red Rover.

I just hope he can bring that game to the next level. Have watched so much film of kids tearing apart high school talent only to get to D1 and discover that ballin's just a bit different against some one-and-done.

Sounds like West Covina tried a triangle and two defense, where they just put 2 guys on Lucas the whole time. Pretty crazy.
I have a hard time believing a kid that can score at that level won't have a game that translates at least somewhat to D1.

It was a goal he thought was possible, though a longshot, when the season started. “At the beginning of the year I told my dad, you think I can be No. 1 all time? He said no, you can’t,” Lucas recalled. “The first thing I did was go the gym and make 500 shots. And here I am, No. 1 all-time. It’s a blessing.” Yea, I'll take that work ethic and attitude towards the impossible in our program

I don't feel like the Ball kids (extreme example) had the same type of support when they were scoring 70 or 80 pts in games.

Hence, his 3* rating and limited high profile offers as compared to guys mentioned. A lot of people do not understand how convoluted CIF leagues and organization really is. Los Altos is not a premier team in a premier league at the premier level. So at times comparing stats to known successes is very misleading. A state champion is nothing like we know of it in Oregon, WA, ID, etc... I believe there are 10 Sections is Cali. The southern section has close to 600 schools. It's a crazy system. Los Altos has 40 teams in it's division in the southern section. It's chances of winning the playoffs is rated at #24. There are 200 D1 team in Cali, they are #20. They are currently rated the #79-90th best team in Cali depending on which metric (CIF sites generally use MaxPreps for their stats, etc). Hard to judge talent coming from Cali in terms of how they will do against college D1 talent unless they face it regularly.

Well I can guarantee Lucas is playing against better competition than Reichle ever did in 5A Oregon hoops. And Reichle won 2 state titles, should have won three and is currently our 6th man basically so I'm going to go ahead and consider this kid an upgrade.

Yes, there must be skepticism that his game will translate, given the numbers he put up vs. his recruiting, but it's not like he hasn't played against high-level competition.
E.g. Some AAU highlights
- notice that he can get shots off under heavy pressure from some pretty good athletes.
Regardless, I'd rather this type of risk than great athletes that are fundamentally way behind and under-achieving vs. their physical talent. Riley's mantra was always about recruiting kids that produced, and he had some good examples where that worked out very well (i.e. James Rodgers).

And, as stated ZR shouldn't be on the roster of a Pac12 school trying to rise to the top third of the conference. And, facts of where Lucas plays are just those. Not an indictment of potential, but he's not compiling those stats vs AAU teams of D1 players.

Well, Nemec likes the kid, but I'm not sure that means all that much.
