Walking the ball up against a zone. Good idea. Let them get set. Leaving your feet to pass. Now, watcha going to do. Attempted dribble penetration. Into a crowd. Passing lanes disappear.
I know. Basketball has changed. It is all about the athleticism and individual talent. Five one on one's. Against a zone, old school works. Move the ball. Move your ass through the seams and soft spots. Make the extra pass. Take the open shot they give you.

My larger concern is I left Gill feeling like we have so far to go to compete for a Pac 12 title.
I felt like Beaver Nation, although only 6k showed was into the game beggin the Beavs to make it a game. The crowd was ready for a classic and those first 3 minutes just sucked.
I hope this team can continue to get better but we just lost some serious momentum we had building.
Sigh....
I will also say, the Huskies found a great coach. That zone was tough. And they out hustled, were more agressive and just ran us out of our own gym.

You just enumerated some of the frustration I have had with the program in recent years (the "trail of tears" we have been on this last couple of decades have left me less thirsting for wins and more thirsting to just see good basketball, regardless of result) - there is little emphasis of fundamentals......even though most of our wins are a result of us playing the game with more than a passing nod to: Blocking out. Crisp passes (those lazy bounce passes, ugh). Hustling the ball up the court. Sets the tone, creates a sense of urgency. Forces opponent to play D longer, might exploit a still settling zone, etc. etc. Accountability - if you repeatedly leave your feet, can't hustle, can't block out, can't resist the temptation to drive into a crowd, come polish the pine.....even if you are a coaches kid, even if we will lose without your top-shelf talent out there, etc. etc. Lack of leadership development - where is that vocal leader that is an extension of the coaching staff on the floor? I have lost interest in walking away from every other MBB game frustrated, and the management doesn't like me yelling at the TV (late night skimming of DVR'ed games is my answer). So I have started to primarily scratch my basketball itch elsewhere. Thankfully I can do that. Go Beavers!

Agree with all of the above PLUS, set a solid screen and hold it! I'd be embarrassed to coach a team that was so lackadaisical in this simple endeavor.
If you want to see good, fundamental basketball, watch the OSU women. In fact, the men's team needs to watch the OSU women. MB.
