I was relegated, once again, to watch the #10 WBB team in the country, our OSU Lady Beavs, on the Pac-12 website rather than on TV. Near the end of the game the announcers were going on and on raving about what Rueck has done for/to the OSU program. That was nice of them to be so vocal about just what an amazing turn-around that Rueck has brought to OSU and the program. They were discussing how some teams can have a couple great years but then fall back down to where they were before but how Rueck has built a consistent winner in Corvallis that has been around for several years now and won't fall back. Here's my beef...in a reference to the other teams that have been successful for awhile, like Stanford, they listed Oregon also as one of those teams. Now, hold on here. In my recollection UO has only really been good for the last two years prior to this one, right? I mean, c'mon, prior to Iunescu (spelling whatever) they weren't good at all and even in her freshman year they weren't very good. So, what's this love affair with UO WBB and that they have been a consistent conference power? Here's my question, without SI, how good is UO these last couple years? And, how good will they be once she's gone? Beavs rule the state and are close to getting back to repeat conference championships!! Oh, Stanford is REALLY good this year, though.
Go Beavs!!
They definitely weren't good, certainly not stanford/ucla/asu who have been successful for a while and P12 traditional powers for a while.
However they did get to the elite 8 during Ionescu's freshman year and sophomore years.
But before that, they had basically club level players (until Cazorla came through).
The way I see it SU/UCLA/ASU dominated an incredibly weak P12 WBB league. It wasn't until we crashed the party, and UW followed suit. Oregon came late since they rode out that awful coach to his last contract. Similar to what they are doing with their baseball team.
