I was relegated, once again, to watch the #10 WBB team in the country, our OSU Lady Beavs, on the Pac-12 website rather than on TV. Near the end of the game the announcers were going on and on raving about what Rueck has done for/to the OSU program. That was nice of them to be so vocal about just what an amazing turn-around that Rueck has brought to OSU and the program. They were discussing how some teams can have a couple great years but then fall back down to where they were before but how Rueck has built a consistent winner in Corvallis that has been around for several years now and won't fall back. Here's my beef...in a reference to the other teams that have been successful for awhile, like Stanford, they listed Oregon also as one of those teams. Now, hold on here. In my recollection UO has only really been good for the last two years prior to this one, right? I mean, c'mon, prior to Iunescu (spelling whatever) they weren't good at all and even in her freshman year they weren't very good. So, what's this love affair with UO WBB and that they have been a consistent conference power? Here's my question, without SI, how good is UO these last couple years? And, how good will they be once she's gone? Beavs rule the state and are close to getting back to repeat conference championships!! Oh, Stanford is REALLY good this year, though.
Go Beavs!!

Agree with that. As I have previously pointed out, Oregon has zero top 100 domestic players in this year's freshman class, and have zero coming in next year. They're very good right now, but 2 years from now when Hebard and Ionescu are gone? They could be Washington after Plum and Osahor (sp?) left.
At the moment, I liken the Ducks to a 4th of July firework - a bright light rapidly ascending, exploding into dazzling brilliance momentarily, and then ... gone.

UO, unfortunately, is really good in wbb. Without Ionescu, they would still be good, but probably in that mix of the top 4-5 teams with Hebard and the others, maybe not at the top. Remember UO won both the regular conference and Pac-12 tourney title last year, so OSU is not on the verge of winning back to back conference anything. Yes, agree it is a stretch to call UO a perennial conference power since this is only the third year they've been a force in the conference really.
There's still 14 conference games to go. Lots can happen but Beavs sweeping in LA is a very good sign. They'll be a handful for Oregon when they play.

I agree, lots of ball to be played but this weekend's performances makes me feel a little better. I thought we might drop one of the two, especially UCLA. I am still worried about Utah though. They look much, much improved. Go Beavs!!

One of Oregon’s freshmen this year was a top 100 domestic recruit last year according to all recruiting services...Taylor Chavez. They also brought in one of they top international bigs who would likely have been top 20 if she played domestically.

While we are ranting....
- the Pac-12 channel is apparently trying to remind everyone in the country tuning in of how great the conference is.....I get the need to do so, but I have to agree with you that the uo Johnny come lately types being counted among the blue bloods is galling. It's the way of the world, you can buy your way into a lot of circles, so uncle phil has done so.
- what is with clock management in the conference? I forbid myself from watching any non-OSU sports (too much else going on in my life), so I thought it was a local problem, but whether it is men's or women's, at any locale, it seems to happen once or twice a game.
- back to USC - I don't like their style of play. It reminds me of visiting LA....I guess one way to compensate for the talent gap is to "dirty things up" with a lot of physicality, but I don't like that brand of "on the edge" basketball. Nice that we can respond to it, however. Thing is, I think it attracts a certain sort of player, and we saw how those players started responding when things go south....."and if you can't drive with a broken back / at least you can still polish the fender" (Billy Joel).
I guess we will see how much Zona has improved next week, and see if the ASU coach is still excitable and can give me more rant fodder.....
Go Beavers!

I won’t debate you on style of play since that is subjective. For the game the foul calls were essentially even. 22 for OSU, 21 for USC. No, most teams don’t play OSU’s style. That’s a good thing - for us.

I liken it to the “Lady Vols”. Lady Beavs I think has a ring to it. Could be just me though.

It's part of their logo and they have a strong tradition of usage. Not true for Oregon State. Let's leave the "Lady" descriptor to the Southeast, where it belongs. Do we call our men's teams the Gentleman Beavers?
