Yes, interesting article.....thanks for posting that.
I'm a Gervais High grad too so love hearing stories on Kylor.
One other link between Gervais and OSU: Mel Counts sons Brent and Brian went to Gervais High and helped win what I think is the schools only State basketball title back in in 1982-83.
Edit: Turns out that Gervais won a second title in 1984-85 and Mel had a third son (Chris) who may have been on that team.
Brent went on to play at the University of Pacific (Stockton, CA) and Brian played at Western Oregon.

Way back when, I worked my first game at Gervais. Going over the ground rules, the Gervais coach said the FFA compost pile in CF was a ground rule triple (would take a helluva poke to reach it on the roll). I was stunned. A compost pile in the field of play??? Coach said if he complained, the baseball program would go and the compost pile would stay. The good old days.

I told them if the ball got there, leave it there. Imagine licking the fingers after handling that ball.

I played baseball against Gervais in little league and in high school, not a player friendly field even back in the 70's. But my sisters were friends with Connie Peterka (OSU All-American in the Javelin); she was from Gervais and they played on the same state championship summer softball team. Not sure what field they played on but I don't think their home games were in Gervais.

Gervais knocked out my Oakland Oakers in the first round, after taking them in a triple overtime game in '83 I believe. Broke my 2nd grade heart big-time. Figured that was Oakland's best shot at a championship they'd ever get, but the did later get it done in '00 and '06. Looks like Gervais has 3 Basketball titles though in it's history though, '82, '83 and 85 - maybe all involving Count's kids? www.osaa.org/docs/bbx/records/boystrophies.pdf

Have to admit I did not know all that so thanks for the link.
