Beavs go up by 14 early, Kelley gets in foul trouble, perimeter defense has to sag in to cover the limitations of our only other 5, and that is all she wrote. This was as ugly a loss as I've watched in a while. There's a big hole in the key right now on D, and no desire to take a 15 ft J. Its not just in the key. There is no one that can play any consistent D. It's matador D. I about spit out a drink of Guinness when Dickau said... could be as athletic as Luke Jackson after one put back dunk... that TT is a next level player! Who in the eff could he possibly defend the the G league let alone the NBA? Again... 21-7 with 12+min left... outscored by 23 the rest of the half. Obvious concerns say D... but, the ultimate cause is the offensive arrogance and lack of instilled discipline. The early lead was running an offense, moving bodies and the ball. THEN... nothing but one on one dribbling, forcing shots under pressure! Unfortunately... nothing new to see here. Same BS the last 2+ years. You just dated yourself with "defend" and NBA in the same sentence.
But yeah, Tres isn't going to make it on either end there.

Ok... attempt to guard/stay with/not get left in the dust...

So we did not run our game plan on offense or defense. Maybe stop wasting time on game planning.

A noon game on a Friday. WTF?! Thank you Larry Scott. Then again, this may be a good thing, since its like a tree fell and no one was around to hear it. The women wear the pants in this house (Gill). The men were going to play Thursday night, and the ladies had Duke scheduled for Thursday as well. The gals carried more clout and got the Thursday evening game slot instead of an afternoon game. The men could not play Friday evening because Kent State's players already had flights out of PDX tonight to go home for the Holiday. I guess they already had tickets to head out in different directions. Who wears the pants in your house?

Have to agree. This one single reason this team keeps underperforming and stays inconsistent is they are just too darn lazy on D. GP2 played tough D and demanded others do their part. And we won big because of it.
If Tinkle and co. insist on keeping guys like Stevie in there for his offense, they had better do a better job of recruiting defensive specialists for other spots.
On not pulling Stevie, its a tough call. He is a great shooter, and even on nights where you go 0-10 to start off, a shooter can instantly heat up.
Today it didn't happen, and we all know that if you live by the 3, you die by the 3.
That being said, it is still a wonder why more teams don't coach to take advantage of the midrange jumpers and shots off the glass(for what made J. Wooden famous). At least for me, shooting off the glass from the side angles increased my accuracy alot. But i don't know the last time i saw a college player even take one.
All 3pters and dunks these days. Too bad.

Bad loss. No spinning, excuses, etc. change that sad fact. Lazy, lazy, lazy team. Some individuals hustle....others.... not at all. That part bothers me more than anything.

Our best players are not good defenders. Simple as that. Hollins got in foul trouble and he was the only guy with the tools to check 23 for KSU. After him everyone was either too slow or not strong enough. I’m starting to buy into the BMI thing. We didn’t have a single guy with arms like that guy.
Also, 23 for them was damn good. Just a killer. Every time they needed a big shot, an offensive board, whatever, that dude delivered. He could play for anyone, and he comes off the bench for Kent freaking State.

He only comes off the bench because he was suspended for 5 games to start the season. He is by far their best player.

Team shot 43.9 percent from the field. S. Thompson was 1-16. Take Thompson away and you have a percentage of 58.5 . I didn't watch or listen to the game. Did ST take some bad shots or did he just clang everything he threw up? The Tpercentage from the 3 point line was 17.6. Take out the 0 for 6 shooting of ST and you have a percentage of 27.2 ST seems to me to be a very streaky shooter.

Love to know if there was a discussion about running the final play for someone else or if it was STjr all the way. He’s proven in the past he can hit the big shot, but today wasn’t really his day. His only bucket was a layup and even that almost rimmed out

I missed the first half but in the second half his shots were fine, other than just not going in. Sometimes I wish they would just give every player that misses 4 in a row a 2 or 3 minute "break", not a "benching", just to change up the rhythm... we've got enough "shooters" now that there's no need to go all in on one guy.
