WTF is going on down in the "hole?" I'm getting sick and friggin' tired of seeing the talent they're amassing EVERY damn week. This week, the number one "GET" in the nation declares for them, NUMBER ONE....TO hole....and, the number FOUR rated kicker. TODAY, they received the commitment of the NUMBER one ranked safety for 2020. Dammit. Are they sprinkling fairy dust on them as they enter the Fuqua Center, thereby SOMEHOW clouding their judgement? They didn't beat out just any old programs for these kids. What in the name of all that is RIGHTEOUS is going on? Please.....DON'T tell me they're cheating.....No s%#t. EVERY s.e.c. team does it. Is Nike THAT big o' deal? Are costume combos THAT important? Is the Valley River Center the greatest mall in the lower 48s? Good lord. Someone talk me DOWN from the (curb) LEDGE! I'm getting depressed. Losing hope. Becoming a "glass DAMN near empty" dude. Not good. Bad. Very bad....

Nike has power and that manifests itself in flash, hype, gear, chance meetings with pro's, etc... IMHO... very 'kid' friendly.

Keep track as many of their last two high rated classes bailed before ever signing. Cristobal like Herm talks a great game if he can get into your living room. Add the flash and its pretty appealing for some... but for some its just temporary.

"Is Nike THAT big o' deal?"--Yes.
"I frankly think Nike also floats the idea of future jobs with the company and/or endorsement deals post college."--Not just the kid/athlete. I believe family members get employment and fringe benefits well. Can be difficult to prove. Just because the job or benefit doesn't come from NIKE directly, doen't mean it does not happen. NIKE has its finger in SSSOOOOOOooooo many different businesses and entities that being able to connect the dots is very difficult.*wink, wink
And a "Great Recruiter" like a MC can spin any and all of those "perks" to his advantage.(Learned well in the aforementioned SEC)

I frankly think Nike also floats the idea of future jobs with the company and/or endorsement deals post college. Kinda like Dennis Dixon, he of NFL third-string/practice squad "fame", reportedly having a nice little endorsement deal. Something stinks down there, and it's not (just) the landfill the stadium is built on. That is a violation of NCAA rules. All it takes is someone willing to come forward

I don't have to read some propaganda sheet to know University of Oregon football program is cheating and probably paying $$ to recruits. It's what they have always done. It's who they are. It's Willie Lyles and every other undiscovered crime they have in their record.

My question is why isn't the one of a kind Nike Gear an NCAA violation? The stuff Bol Bol talks about in that article is worth more than cash to these kids... becuase it is very unique, rare, a status symbol and frankly something other people can't even buy at the store.
As much as I think the NCAA has too many rules and is not good at consistently enforcing rules, it seems like they need to crack down on the material items gifted to schools/programs and even the players.
Beyond the Nike funded facilities, Bol Bol makes it clear how the gear influenced him. There are only so many mega corporations, and shoe companies to go around. If the NCAA wants the playing field to be level, they need to step in and regulate the gear. It wouldn't be that hard.

If the NCAA wants the playing field to be level, they need to step in and regulate the gear. It wouldn't be that hard. The NCAA does not want a level playing field. It wants Duke, UNCs, Kentucky, etc., to continue to dominate college basketball. People don't tune in to watch Cleveland State and Valpo play for the NCAA title.

They’re not very good at it if they don’t want a level playing field. I didnt know Loyola-Chicago was such a big name. More mid majors than ever are making it farther in basketball

There have been 36 Final Four teams in this decade. Loyola-Chicago was the fourth non-power (in basketball) team to make a FF, joining VCU, Wichita State and Butler (2). Only one of those teams was higher than a No. 8 seed.
From 2000-09, George Mason was the only non-power team to make a FF.
(Gonzaga is a power program, and not included in this list).
Loyola was a nice story, the NCAA loved it because it brought in the Chicago market, a weak one for college basketball. But the NCAA does not want to see a steady parade of Loyolas, Butler, Gonzagas, etc. It wants the big boys who will attract the eyes of the casual fan and increase the ratings.
