For those not privy to high school sports--- To give the 5A and 6A classifications some clarity-- They mean very little in respect to how good a school is until they get in the playoffs. Those classifications are generally dictated by enrollment and it might have some bearing on public schools, but to private schools not so much. In fact in California, until they created the "Open division" the best teams in the state usually came from the lower division by enrollment private schools.
In respect to national rankings both Derby and Dallas Christian are ranked pretty low by Max preps computer rankings. In fact Dallas Christian is ranked higher than Derby. But in the case of Derby it doesn't mean that much. They just have not had the opportunity to play anyone rated very high so their rating remains low. It's kind of like college RPI where beating up on some weak teams does you no good. DC has played two better teams but were steamrolled.
From what I see neither team will see any really tough teams even in their playoffs. DC because it's in the tap playoffs and Derby because it's Kansas and they two other potential tough teams are not 6A. So how they do in the playoffs will also mean very little. To bad Derby will just never get the chance to test themselves.
I watched a few of Derby's games. You can catch them live by linking on to their schedule on maxpreps schedule. The NFHS network broadcasts some of their games and they also have them on demand once you create an account. It is free unless you want to watch games live. They also have all the broadcast game highlights available without having an account.

Good luck trying to learn about anything that has much to do with basketball from watching the McDonald's game.... Generally they are not much more than run n' gun scrimmages with some emphasis on equal playing time, and no emphasis on defence...
It's OK for checking out athleticism, open court splash and gee-whiz basketball - but not much more..... Learning anything about Kennedy's game will be tough because someone's got to get the ball in her hands.....And that someone may just shoot it first !! At least that's how I see it...Get back to me in 10 days and let me know how wrong I was !!
GO BEAVS !!

I’m going to assume she will be battling for minutes with USC signee 6’5” Angel Jackson as well as 6’5” Stanford signee Ashten Prechtel. Last year players played between 24 and 13 minutes. She will be going up against two elite posts in 6’5” Florida State-bound River Baldwin (who almost lured Taylor to FSU) and South Carolina’s 6’4” Aliyah Boston.

I do still think it will be a chance to see her skill set and she will be playing against the country’s best, but we won’t be able to say “She will definitely be starting” or “She will rarely get on the court” after this game.

Well some newcomer "will definitely be starting" or we'll be just another decent but not great team next year. Take your pick: Aquino, Mitrovic, Brown, Jones. The are ALL good enough to start next year given our poor inside play this year. The only question is WHICH ones will start. We've got 2 slots to fill. If NONE of those 4 start next year by the start of conference play then there's no hope and I'm hanging it up. And I'm sure you'd all hate to see me go.

Well, I definitely don't want you to hang it up, thickhead. I'm guessing some combination of Aleah, Kat, Mik, and Destiny are going to fill the guard/SF spots, and Taya will woman the other forward position. I fully expect, and I'm no expert, that Trish will be the starting post at the beginning of the year. Taylor and Kennedy will likely begin in a backup role to Trish and Taya. I'm still leaving Andrea out of my conversations until we hear that she is cleared. If she is cleared to play, then that changes everything. I have no idea what the coaches plans are, but I'll be surprised if Mitrovic plays next season.
For this team to be great, you said one of those four have to start by the beginning of conference play. Maybe that will happen. I do think it will be difficult to keep Taylor and Kennedy off the floor, and perhaps they pass Trish along the way, but I think this team may be 'great' with Trish as the starter, because whoever starts will be sharing minutes.
If Taya gets a more productive offensive game going, that could limit the time of some of the younger players. I do expect next season to be somewhat of a breakout year for Taya. She is definitely going to be pushed by the freshmen.
One thing is pretty certain, with the Italy trip, and pre-conference play, this team will have plenty of time to give the younger players a chance to prove themselves.

Yeah, I totally forgot about Patricia. It would be great if she could fill the center position. But based on the video I've seen, Mitrovic has an aggressiveness and ball-handling skills that are already well-developed and exceed anything we've seen from Trish, so I would be surprised if she doesn't play next season (so we differ on this). Besides, I think we all would be transfixed seeing 6'9, 6'9, and 6'6 on the floor at the same time. I'm sure that'd be an ESPN-worthy news story.

Kennedy Brown has also been named to play in the Jordan Brand Classic in New York in April. This is the game I first saw Sabally play in.
