I was keeping my fingers crossed hoping that this wouldn't be needed. Let's hope that whatever the problem is that AA is all set next year. She'll be fine. But, according to special education academics at WOU, a non-native English speaker needs a full seven years in the language to succeed at an American university. This will make sure she's able to stay enrolled. Marie did just fine coming straight from Germany. So did the Schaftenaars, I think it's all dependent on the individual. Some may need 7. Some may need 1. Some may never adapt. But in one aspect, English is the easiest to learn because the entire world is suffused in English-language media. On the other hand, I knew numerous US-born, native English speaking Oregonians in college who were barely literate.

Most Europeans graduate high school able to speak 3-4 languages with English being one of those. So Marie and the Schaftenaars were probably near fluent before they came. As far as English being the easiest to learn -- my wife and daughter will disagree with you. English is a saxon language and easiest for Germans and the Dutch. So ...

I had a cousin visit from Switzerland, she could speak most of the European languages Western European that is as well as great King's English but it took her a while to start to catch on to American English which I think is what can cause problems for students coming in from overseas. I see it every day from students at Oregon State who are foreign and English speakers but look at me half the time like I am speaking a foreign language because they're still catching on to americanisms.

Don't understand why the POTUS won't critici$e him and get tougher when he invades his neighbors and grabs territory.

Heck, why not send a couple Navy ships into the Sea of Azov...to escort a few Ukranian commercial ships...after all, it is international waters.
