Our efforts to make it into the red zone during the 1st half were successful. However, as in golf, one drives for show and putts for dough. What could have been a 21-20 Duck lead became 21-3 as a result. At least we were not letting their RB's and WR's house us repeatedly as happened in the season opener at tOSU.
2nd half: We give up a TD, then score one in return. The XP goes by the wayside and after that so did our D. With Herbert gone, it was obvious Oregon was going to run, run and run some more. Despite not having to guess what the play call would be, the Swiss Cheese Factor got maxed out so the rout was on.
Trick plays wound up going to Malfunction Junction. The failure to convert a 4th and 5 on the first possession showed it was not going to be our day for playing what was one of our strongest suits. JJ never got untracked. Even the last XP attempt was turned into a clown show.
So if our goal was to win the game, we failed. If our goal was to cover the point spread, we failed. Where was the silver lining? Once again we did try hard and fly around the field strong. That is a foundation element which needed to be put in place after last season. Mission accomplished.
Let the process continue. 2019 means more new pieces to add to a broken down Beavermobile and more losses in the L column. So long as we do not get the L in the "spirit" column, we will get better as a team even if the record is not so hot.
It will be fun paying back those who beat us today in their own coin...with interest.

I totally agree, if Jonathan Smith has the chance within the next 5 to 7 years to poor it on the duckies. He needs to do it. 75-10, 66-,50-0, 53-6... makes no difference, but with 16 seconds left and a 40 or so lead we need to keep pounding the playbook. Score if you can...Be taltally classless just as the duckies were yesterday.

who cares if a team plays to score points? that's what the game is all about and the last game ever for some of them against the beavs.
I can't stand it when people expect a team with a lead to just put in the third string/put it in neutral. BS just play the game and the loser has to deal with it like a man instead of whiny b!tches

The whole "the other team ran up the score on us" is loser talk IMO. It is viable in youth and HS football. But if your feelings get hurt because the other team chooses to run their offense until the very end you need to get tougher. And based on the smack talk Hall had the team using before last years Civil War we don't have much room to talk. Bottom line, if you don't like getting your ass beat, use it as fuel to get better....

I remember when June Jones’ Portland State team scored 99/100 points one game and people accused him of pouring it on. His response was he pulled his starters in the first quarter and played 4th and 5th stringers the 2nd half, but he wasn’t going to tell them not to play hard.
Granted, trying to score with 16 seconds left with a 40 point lead might be a bit overkill, but blowouts happen from time to time and you really should let the bench play to their capabilities.

Assuming my memory is not totally gone, that was the game against Delaware State. The final was 105-0. At the end of the 1st quarter the score was 49-0 with Neil Lomax having thrown 7 TD passes. Had Jones been pouring it on, the 222 scored by Georgia Tech against Cumberland would have been in jeopardy!

the CW was a bummer to watch but the visiting Rams contingent is impressed with J Smith. Somebody on the pure orange facebook page mentioned the brief talk Mannion and Hekker and Cooks gave to the team. The message is to keep building because the team is closer than they realize. Hekker said the current beavers remind him of the Rams two years ago- lots of hungry young talent that will surprise people coming up.
