Beavers set for strong challenge in VancouverIf you are a fan of college women’s basketball then you will want to pay attention to the Vancouver Showcase this Thanksgiving weekend. The eight-team field is headlined by the last two national champions — Notre Dame and South Carolina — as well as Oregon State, which has been to the Final Four and the Elite Eight (twice) in the last three seasons. But it doesn’t end there as three other teams in the field — Gonzaga, Drake and Western Kentucky — were in the NCAA tournament last season.

I like the Beavers chances against Western Kentucky which appears to be down a little bit this year. Assuming OSU and South Carolina advance to the second round, I expect a highly competitive game. South Carolina is probably going to be a title contender for several years, considering they just inked the number 3, 7, 10 and 13th ranked players per ESPN. That has to put them as the number 1 recruiting class for 2019.
side note on recruiting....UCONN has now lost out on their highest target recruits last year and this year...does this signal a changing landscape in women's collegiate D1 basketball? maybe.

We'll see about UCONN. As long as Geno and his coaching staff stay together, I believe UCONN will remain a contender for the National Championship. OSU has demonstrated that without 5 star High School recruits, good coaching, and good kids, this combination can take you a very long way in Women's College Basketball.

An early season test, the first of the year and it is on the road. I think our depth and experience will be the difference. The last several years have shown that we can compete with anyone. I hope we get another chance at Notre Dame, the last two games against them were very close.
