OregonLive: Meet the Beaver roster through Coach Scott Rueck's thoughtsCORVALLIS – High expectations cannot be escaped these days with Oregon State women’s basketball. The Beavers are on a five-year NCAA tournament run, making the Sweet 16 the past three years. There’s a Final Four and a couple Elite Eights mixed in. So when talk of incredible expectations comes up to OSU coach Scott Rueck, he doesn’t sidestep the discussion. More like, bring it on. “I’m comfortable when they’re high. I welcome it. You want to aspire to something,” Rueck said. “It’s a good burden.”

It's fun to read down that list and think that there might not be a team deeper and with more basketball acumen in the country than this squad. I think that by the end of the season this is a team that will be top 5 ranked, battling for the Pac-12 and ready to make another run at the Final 4. And I don't even need my pair of orange glasses to look through while writing this. Go Beavs!

There are several teams with experienced C/F combos that would be a nightmare match up for OSU. Just in the few "top 25" player lists there are teams with multiple players. OSU's lone mention is the newcomer who has a lot to learn about her teammates (8 TOs... about 4 were players not ready to handle passes as delivered) and Pac12 play. People point to DS play vs UCONN... great, but the BIG10 is not the Pac12 as a league... in my opinion. And, extrapolating on the UConn game is about as useful as using the NCAA game vs Oregon where the Terps were dominated by a group of Frosh... held to 27 under their scoring average with 21 turnovers. Destiny with 9pts, 4 fouls, 3 asst, 5 to's. Neither is who she is going to be with OSU. OSU has a ton of "growing up" to do to be considered in a Final 4/Elite 8 discussion. Fun to think about, fun to watch them grow together. But, Destiny in a completely different situation than at Maryland that was senior laden with bigs. This will take time to find itself...

Note that I said by the end of the season. And I wrote that before seeing tonight and wondering if we're going to have to go smaller at the center though we do have several players in the six-foot-three and range that can play The Middle. But I liked what I saw overall, the defensive intensity is there and the Never Say quit is there in Spades so I'm going to stick to what I said and wait and see what we're like at the end of the season.
