Oregon is #3. Stanford #8. Arizona State #23. Cal #25. 7. Oregon State 2017-18: 26-8; lost in Elite Eight Notable returners: Kat Tudor (12.0 PPG, 4.5 RPG); Mikayla Pivec (11.1 PPG, 7.1 RPG; Katie McWilliams (8.1 PPG, 3.8 APG) Scott Rueck has built a culture of winning and excitement. Despite losing centerpiece players to the WNBA in consecutive seasons (Sydney Wiese in 2017 and Marie Gulich in 2018), his team is still expected to make a Final Four push. This year's edition of the Beavers won't be as one-player focused; expect major contributions from up and down the roster. All of the chief shooters that made Oregon State the most accurate 3-point team in the country a season ago are back. Kat Tudor, who made 89 3-pointers on 41.2 percent shooting, leads the way, with Katie McWilliams (53 3-pointers), Mikayla Pivec (23), Taya Corosdale (36) and Aleah Goodman (49) still in the rotation. McWilliams also adds a 2.4-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio to go with her 43.8 percent accuracy from downtown. The addition of point guard and Oregon native Destiny Slocum, the WBCA national freshman of the year in 2017 while at Maryland, should make the offense run even smoother. Even with the departure of the 6-5 Gulich, Rueck still has size to balance the shooting: 6-8 senior Joanna Grymek returns and top-10 recruit, 6-9 Andrea Aquino, could be a program game-changer. www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/25151116/notre-dame-fighting-irish-no-1-espnw-2018-19-preseason-women-basketball-rankings

We are definitely a consensus top 10 team this year. Our best pre-season ranking and I hope it doesn't jinx us.
Hard to believe our best scorer and both of our best three point shooters start on the bench.

Hard to believe our best scorer and both of our best three point shooters start on the bench. That sentence is not true based upon last year's statistics. And Saturday's game was an exhibition game. The starting line-up changed for the Beavers in both of the past two seasons as PAC-12 Conference play neared. The coaches will start the five players and combination that they believe will put the team in the best position to win. They are paid to do that. Katie McWilliams was the team's second best three-point shooter percentage-wise (43.8%) and well as total three-pointers made (53) last season. See the season stats below for confirmation. static.osubeavers.com/custompages/WBB/teamcume.htm?path=wbball&path=wbball

Kat was the second leading scorer by average, Marie was the leading scorer.
Kat made the most three point baskets, 89.
Aleah had the highest three point percentage made, 46.2%.
Given those stats I consider Kat and Aleah to be the two best three point shooters since each led in one of the two pertinent categories. And yes KtMac was second in both categories. This is not intended to be a knock on KtMac, I have always been a huge fan of her and the way she plays the game.
As far as who starts, there has only been one game to go by and both Kat and Aleah started the game on the bench. I never said anything about who will start the next game let alone for the conference season.
That said, I stand by my post.

Hard to believe our best scorer and both of our best three point shooters start on the bench. Believeinthebeavs' quote above seemed to question why the OSU coaching staff would elect to start five other players over Tudor and Goodman. My response was intended to point out that Katie McWilliams was the second best three-point shooter on the team last year and was in the starting line-up for the exhibition game. I agree with believeinthbeavs that Kat Tudor is the team's top returning scorer from '17-'18. Kat was the team's third best three-point shooter on the team percentage-wise at 41.2% last season. The Beavs return five players who shot 35% or better from beyond the arc last season. Adding Destiny to that mix with the 37.4% that she shot from beyond the arc as a frosh at Maryland provides the coaches with six quality distance shooters to weave into the line-up. It isn't "hard to believe" at all for me. The coaches see the players compete for playing time in practices and training activities far more than we do. Things go on with players during practices and other team activities that we never get to see. Both Tudor and Goodman had surgeries following the end of last season and missed practice and training time. It is not unexpected that other players on the team have performed more consistently for the Beavers during practices and scrimmages since last March and offer the team a better chance to be successful at this time.

I wasn't questioning the coaching staffs decision on who to start. My statement was made to point out that we have such riches in the guard/wing positions that high quality players are not going to start. In the 40+ years that I've been following wbb at OSU I can't recall having this situation. I would have made the same statement if Mik, KtMac, or Destiny were not starting, minus the stats of course.
Bhf is reading way to much into my comment. I wasn't knocking any player or the coaching staff. In fact I try to, very successfully I might add, keep my posts about players or staff positive. I realize that there are several on here that don't but I'm not one of them.
