beavfan32 - -TCU wins by 6.....Must be a story or two worth sharing on that score.... Or is there total coverage blackout on these "pretend" games? If you can share, I'm interested....
GO BEAVS !!

I wouldn't read to much into the score on a scrimmage. It is like an exhibition game in that the coaches want to see what everybody can do, I doubt that the starters played most of the game.

who knows...TCU has 6 gals listed as 6'2"-6'3" who play forward and post. Maybe their speed/athleticism caused problems, but it was just practice.

It’s amazing isn’t it? That we’re even posting about WBB preseason scrimmages. As if losing by 6 or winning by 20 would have any bearing whatever on the upcoming season.

Werebeaver - This site is absolutely riddled with comments, commentary, conjecture, refutation and all kinds of other amazing stuff that don't have much bearing whatsoever on the upcoming season...For example: whether the height of a high school prospect truly is 6'6 or merely 6'5. Curiosity about an actual game, played with actual officials, against an actual opponent does not seem weird to me at all. Especially if, for example, Coach played his best 5 most of the game. Or, played his 2nd 5 most of the game. Seems every bit as relevant as an edited 30 second clip from practice that, rightfully, drew lots of interest. GO BEAVS😜

It’s NOT an “actual game” in that winning or losing is inconsequential. But it is impressive to see the interest.

For some posters here I certainly hope all this "5*" talent becomes absolute stud players or Coach Rueck suddenly becomes as "terrible" as coaches like Coach Close and numerous others mentioned here. Basing a coach's ability based on arbitrary recruiting rankings of young women is complete BS. Some players just do not have the mental toughness to compete for PT or against other very talented players. Some were just physically overrated by people who rarely see them play in person. Some turn out to not fit the program's expectations/system or academically struggle. Coach Rueck has built his reputation on "results" in turning around a moribund program to a conference title contender on a consistent basis... stars or no stars. Equally he has had recruits that have not panned out and left the program or played very little. It happens no matter the recruiting rank and actually has little to do with a coach's ability to develop talent and get them to excel as a team. I have confidence SR will continue to have success (and have some "drop off" years) no matter the number of nationally recognized young women land in Corvallis. Getting a bunch of highly thought of players who want to play a certain way or position is not always a positive. We'll get to see right away how well some young, highly talented/recruited (based on HS) bigs acclimate to a much higher level of competition and expectations. This team will face a few more growing pains early on than some on here seem to expect. D1 WBB is not consistently won from the perimeter. Depending on who the Beavs end up facing in OOC this team could have more than a couple big losses. I'm not sure this roster can handle a quick athletic team that applies pressure, even if they are undersized. I do think this team could be very good, but it might not be until the 2nd half of the season.

After seeing what Coach Rueck and his staff have been able to do with his past recruits regardless of their"ranking" gives me hope that they will continue to coach up their players. They have shown an ability to get what is necessary from them. Yes we have some like Green that did not pan out. Some of that is because of multiple injuries, motivation, or were just unable to fit into the program. But for every Green we have players like Bre Brown and Kolby that exceed expectations.

Played with high rotations and different combo's we led most of the game but TCU came home strong. As per most comments nothing to worry about as coaches just seeing what we have and trying new things

Played with high rotations and different combo's we led most of the game but TCU came home strong. As per most comments nothing to worry about as coaches just seeing what we have and trying new things I also heard that the Beavs uncharacteristically shot very poorly from distance during the scrimmage and that minutes were divided up fairly evenly by the 11 players who played in the scrimmage. "You live by the three, you can die by the three." The Beavs will need some form of inside presence/production this season to allow the offense the time it typically takes to launch quality three-point attempts. Most three-point attempts by females at the collegiate level aren't off the dribble. The vast majority of three-point attempts from D1 women are set shots that come as a result of quick ball rotation. Alternatively, a number of the Beavs will have to be able to put the ball on the floor to go by defenders who attempt to guard our quality shooters out to the arc. The Beavs have several players who can put the ball on the floor and attack the paint. We will see more of that this season from the Beavs as teams no longer have to concern themselves with Marie Gulich in and around the paint.
