The PAC-12 coaches rank the top six teams for '18-'19: 1) Oregon 2) Stanford 3) Oregon State 4) California 5) Arizona State 6) UCLA "The poll was voted on by the league’s 12 head coaches. The Conference has administered a preseason poll every year since it began sponsoring women’s sports in 1986-87. The Ducks return four starters from last season’s championship squad that also advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight for the second-consecutive year. Last year’s league tournament crown was the first in the history of the program. Among the returnees back for 2018-19 are All-American Sabrina Ionescu and All-Pac-12 honoree Ruthy Hebard. Ionescu broke the NCAA career record for triple-doubles in just her sophomore campaign and was tabbed the Nancy Lieberman Award winner. Stanford advanced to the Pac-12 Tournament championship game and finished just a half game back of the Ducks in the regular season. The Cardinal have 12 players back from last year’s team that made its 11th-straight NCAA Sweet 16. Oregon State, which has not finished lower than third in the Pac-12 dating back to 2014, has four starters returning that helped the Beavs advance to the NCAA Elite Eight for the second time in three years. CALIFORNIA was picked to finish fourth with 82 points. The Golden Bears are led by All-American candidate Kristine Anigwe who led the team to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances while leading the team in scoring and rebounding. ARIZONA STATE is fifth with 79 points. The Sun Devils have been one of the most consistent teams in the Pac-12, making five-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances." pac-12.com/article/2018/10/09/oregon-voted-pac-12-womens-basketball-preseason-favorite

Not a lot of surprises here. I think they just photocopy last year's standings and put some vote tallies by the school names.
Is my math faulty, or is this Anigwe's seventh year of eligibility? I think my son was getting his learners permit when she first arrived, and he's 22 now . . .

I think my son was getting his learners permit when she first arrived, and he's 22 now . . . Well, I was having very similar thoughts about Anigwe being around forever, so I had to go look up her bio. Interestingly, she hasn't even sat out a year or redshirted or anything - so my new theory is when we play Cal they just say her name so much we feel like we have been hearing her name for years and years..... Substantiating that "name calling fatigue" theory is this factoid: "Enters her senior year with 1,849 career points, fourth on Cal’s all-time scoring list and the second-most by any active player in women’s Division I basketball entering the 2018-19 season" She clearly needs to move on to the WNBA, ideally before we play Cal :-). Go Beavers!

The PAC12 WBB league is the strongest it has ever been. I truly believe top to bottom this league is better than any league. A team that I believe will cause a lot of trouble for all teams is ASU. ASU returns 10 starters, and we remember how tough they were at end of last season. Cal should be tough, as will USC. No easy games in the PAC12 week to week. I am looking forward to the pre season PAC12 games, as, PAC12 can get some early victories and get our teams some high seeding come tournament time. GO PAC12!

However, because ASU has no indoor practice facilities, the PAC12 coaches thought this was a trade-off they could live with this season

OK - your explanation more likely.....they are the incumbent.... Go Beavs!
