Yikes, not what I expected.
I truly am sorry if I jinxed him with that poll before the season began.
Anyone seen his swing this year?

I saw all the games in Arizona. he is over swinging very badly. right now his swing is long and his head is flying out. he is getting beat on the inside corner by 86 mph fastballs. Last year he hardly ever missed a mistake, so far this year he either fouls it back or swings over the top of it. trying to do way to much, lots of pressure coming off last season and all the accolades he has received this preseason. he will get it, just needs to relax and get out of his own way.

Weird, because his stats say a totally different story. He's hitting .326, OPS of .979. Only 8 strikeouts.

no what's weird is how he is getting to those numbers. a .326 average is essentially 1 for 3, right now K.J.'s one hit is a base hit late in the game with the beavers already up by 6 or 8 runs. he is struggling in earlier AB's when the game is still in doubt. its called Arod disease, where you hit a meaningless 3 run homer late in a game to give your team an 11 run lead. right now in meaningful AB's Harrison has gotten pull happy and is over swinging. he will be fine, he just has to try easier.

I agree with most of your statement, but KJ has also had some key hits later in games when the Beavers just needed a guy on base to get a rally started. Those at bats he hasn't been over swinging and just going with the pitch. Coaches have been working hard with him, and as you noted, he will get there. On a somewhat related note, Grenier was tearing the cover off the ball last summer for the Elks when he was down in the order. The Elks moved him to clean-up, and he couldn't hit his rear with both hands. They moved him out of the clean-up spot and he again got key hit after key hit. Simply trying to do too much. Casey is absolutely using Grenier to perfection. And holy cow, I am trying to remember if the Beavers have ever had a better guy at the number 2 spot in the order than Madrigal. Madrigal and Grenier are simply magic so far with the bats and gloves. Pro teams are crying their eyes out.

When did the Mendoza line become .326? LOL. Just as I don't think Ice will end up with 20 bombs, I don't think Grenier will end up with a .519 OBP, I don't think KJ will struggle and go homerless.. I suppose it's a nice place to be when there's a little bit of hand wringing over our clean up hitter hitting .326, leading the team in runs scored and doubles. He'll be fine. Small adjustments.

O.K. that's what I get for using the stats from Gametracker. Next time I'll pull them off the official stats page.
Nothing wrong with a .326 BA. The long ball lead belongs to Ice right now, we'll see how long he can hold onto it.
