I'm not sure how much time I'll have/take for posting and reading, but I'm here now. I do like several of the features of this board. I'm a little concerned that we can just change the name that is displayed to other users (and there doesn't appear to be any checking to make sure you don't use a display name that is already in use?). Seems like that could lead to some annoying impostor-ing, but there must be some way that it makes it not so easy.
Thanks for getting this going. I just wish we had good things to talk about right now!

What I've found is that you can change your "Display Name" to be anything you want (which is not a secret because it told me this when I was registering). And when you change this it not only changes the name that appears on your posts from then on but it even changes what people see as your name on the posts you have already done. As a test, I changed my "Display Name" to "TheGlove" and then went and looked at the post I did and the quote you made of what I posted. Both now said "TheGlove" as my name. I still had my own avatar but my name showed up as TheGlove. However, the good news is that if I hovered my mouse over the name "TheGlove" on my posts or in the place where I was quoted and it showed "Mike84". So even if somebody decides to try to be funny and post as someone else, it won't take much to see which username it really was posted by. Mike '84 |

I remembered correctly that last week I downloaded and installed a plug-in that was created to not allow users to change their display names. It's obviously not working. |

The plug in seems to be working now. You will get one chance to change your display name. After that you are stuck with it unless you can convince an admin to change it. |
