In a very physical game, KT showed she could bring it.
Using her height mismatch.

Those are two very good examples of what we can expect more of this year.
KtMac has a really soft touch that she demonstrated many times at critical times last year.

And a really hard...attitude? when she needs it ๐ Or when the team needs it.... I like the term attitude, nice choice. She is going to provide the senior leadership we need, she had seen others do it the last three years and she knows now is the time for her.

Mik falls awkwardly while setting the pick. Everytime I watch that I expect an injury to Mik or a foul called because of the Ucla player's flop.

Whether that is KM or Destiny remains to be seen. As PG it would be reasonable for Destiny to lead the team the same as Sydney was able to as a youngster. The players will defer to whoever takes the initiative.

I am expecting KTMac to really bring it and be motivated in this, her last go around with the Beavers..... Since she almost always represents a mismatch by way of height and mid-range jumper, she should be a reliable source of double digit points and several assists a game...... I think she really shows her leadership and poise out there, and she has really made a point of canning the big shot (it seems like she used that missed shot against Marquette at home that would have won the game as "never again" motivation and really delivered last season, whether it was the 4 point play in OT against the 'ucks or the coffin corner dagger against Baylor). I expect the youngsters to really get immersed in the on-court intensity and winning tradition with KTMac and Destiny both feeding the competitive fires (not to discount Mik or Kat). (Actually, a little OT from a KTMac thread, but I am wondering how energized Destiny is going to be in her first few games.......just watching her on the bench with no ball in her hand last season was so entertaining, can't begin to imagine the energy she will have on the court).
Go Beavers!

Also OT: Destiny has raw athleticism, quickness, ball-handling, and a pullup jumper that are unmatched in any of our other players. Watching the Louisville game last year, it was evident that none of our players would have been starters for Louisiville. Their athleticism allowed them to converge on Marie and yet recover quickly enough on defense to cover our outside shooters, and on offense their speed to the hoop and pullup jumpers were killers. Destiny DOES have that higher level of athletic ability, but she can't make up for the loss of Marie. Our new bigs have the POTENTIAL to counter some of the athleticism of a team like Louisville, even if the "raw athleticism" isn't there, just due to the inherent advantages of verticality. So IMO the only way we can reach a final four and be competitive with these other top teams, even with the addition of Destiny, is to have some precocious performances from our 6'7" and 6'9" ladies. Just my opinion, FWIW. I'm sure I'll get heat for this.

thickhead - - not sure why you thought you might get heat for your post....For the most part, it reads pretty sensibly to me... Let me react to a few your observations, and you can take it from there....
(1) Yeah, Destiny possesses an impressive basketball athleticism and I know that all of us are looking forward to watching it in action; (2) You say: "So, in my opinion, the only way we can reach a final four.....is to have some precocious performances from our 6'7" and 6'9" ladies...." Let me say this: To reach the Final Four it goes without saying that you must have National level athleticism blended with lots of soon to be Pro talent. It's pretty much a given. No one gets to the Final Four without great athleticism AND great basketball talent.
(3) Final Four is a VERY lofty ambition. The Beavs have achieved it only once - and they ran smack into the athleticism and Pro-level talent you refer to. They were hammered even though they had the greatest collection of player talent OSU has ever assembled on one team.... (4) I doubt if there is a single basketball expert in the country who will predict a Final Four appearance for this year's Beavs...Even if PM & AA greatly exceed expectations...Some fans in Beaver Nation might think Final Four, but they are pretty much the only ones... (5) Like you, I'm hyper-psyched for the season. I love our players, I'm totally impressed with their talent level, and I love the teaching skills of the coaches who make all of them better players than were when they arrived at OSU...๐ GO BEAVS !!

Just my opinion, FWIW. I'm sure I'll get heat for this. Here comes that heat as you anticipated above.... Are you forgetting that Marie Gulich played for OSU in that game? Gulich clearly would have started for Louisville and virtually every other team in America during '17-'18. Slocum will bring a lot of skills and ability to the Beavs in '18-'19. Agreed. However, she will likely not be one of the top four shooters on the team unless her accuracy (40.5% from the field and 66.3% from the free throw line) improves considerably over how she shot during her freshman season at Maryland on a very good team that scored a lot of easy baskets in transition. Slocum has a pullup jumper, but it simply wasn't very consistent during her first year of collegiate basketball. umterps.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5439

I'm not predicting a final four appearance this year, but next year I see it as a possibility of our bigs develop quickly. We lose only KM and JG for the 2019-20 season and we'll have all the rest of our great shooters back. We should be a well-oiled machine by then with Destiny running the show, so that will probably give us a chance. We made the FF once before with what were probably less talented players and less depth. I'm optimistic. Thing is, we have relied on 2 main things offensively: Marie, and 3-pt shooting. The elite teams (like Louisville) have the quickness to shut down both of these. The addition of Destiny, PM, and AA add new dimensions to the team that will make us more competitive against those teams: We'll probably have more a lot more height inside, and we'll have an elite and dynamic PG to handle the ball and distribute. And to BHF's objections about Marie being able to play for Louisville, that's true. However, the center that Louisville had was quicker and a better passer than Marie and may have fit their system better. Oh, and she was a lot meaner than Marie, which is priority #1 at Louisville.

I do understand that Jazz is yet to play a game and prove herself as a Beav, but donโt forget about her athleticism. She proved it last summer playing against the absolute best the USA has to offer (Christyn Williams, Destanni Henderson, etc). Her athleticism and ability to get to the rim will make her a tremendous asset to the team. The question is whether or not she will make that happen freshman year or if we will have to wait a year, or two. Iโm predicting it to be by the end of this season

After this season we could have 2 uber-athletic players to counter the thugs of Louisville! In that Ron Callan interview with Jasmine, he asked her how she thought she would do at this level of play. I think she was being tactful when she replied that she would have to actually play against this competition before she could say. I think she secretly feels that she has already played at a higher level, or was at least fully confident that she could play at this level. It'll be interesting to hear what people are saying about her once they see her in practice with the rest of the team.
