Coach Rueck really likes the depth of the '18-'19 team. He states during the interview that it may be his deepest team yet.

He almost stutters to mention that depth brings its problems. He has said before that twelve is his maximum, and that's where we are.

It would expect to see the core rotation during '18-'19 be eight or nine players. Trying to play all 12 players with quality minutes every game is virtually impossible unless the team is blowing out its opponents every game.

I agree that it will likely be an 8 or 9 player rotation. Depending on how far our freshmen have come defensively I hope to see 2 of them in the rotation. Our class sizes of 2, 4, 3, and 3 are very balanced. Hopefully 2020 will see a strong 4 players to make up for the strong 2016 class we had and the losses of Kat and Mik.

My bet is that all 3 freshman see meaningful minutes, if only due to their defensive skills. That's because I see a defensive void around the bucket if we haven't got some height in there, and I believe that PM's and AA's height alone will be enough to be a positive contribution there. We cannot handle the inside prowess of Notre Dame and UO without some inside intimidator. And AA probably doesn't have the physical endurance to play an entire game, so PM and AA will split time. (I'm discounting JG here because her poor FT shooting (3 of 19 last year) is a huge liability in anything but a blowout game.) And I'm planning on Simmons being the defensive demon that she could be if she uses her outstanding athleticism to its limit, like a Gabby Hansen who was also just 5'11". So I'm hoping for a useful rotation of 9 players, all of whom have useful skills in various game situations. My biggest concern is that some of these very talented players will be relegated to the bench for entire games.

Note that last season (where I guess from SR's remarks we can conclude we were not as deep as this season), 9 of the available 10 players say action in at least 31 of the 34 games, and essentially all 9 of those players averaged double digit minutes. Now that said, 5 of those 9 players were in for 25-30 minutes per game, so one could either make the case that we could see 10+ players every game for at least 10+ minute stints, or we could start (again, though not a bad off season topic) debating which 5-6 will be in that exalted 20+ min/game role. My point? I expect to see 10 or 11 players every game - as @thickhead points out, we will see platooning at the post due to endurance if nothing else, and if Jazz can defend and/or rebound with a vengeance she will see some minutes. That takes care of the newbies, most all of the returners will see the floor as well...... Go Beavers!

I am hoping that we can use two of the bigs at center/power forward for at least some of the time - this team has tremendous depth, and if we can average 6'5" across the front for at least a little while - not many other teams could come close. I expect some interesting experiments during a few of the lower level pre-conference games. Hard to feel bad about having too much of a good thing
