Seven members of the uo track/cross country team have left the program this week. Several were All-Americans and NCAA-meet placers. Many are bound for UW, and will have immediate eligibility.
T & F is their signature program. They spend millions more than any other school on a dying sport that has few home meets, at which the best athletes often don't even compete. They pissed off half the fan base by destroying Hayward Field. Now the athletes are running in the opposite direction as fast as possible.
Too bad. I'd like to feel badly for them ... but I can't.

Oh how the mighty have fallen.
Taking down the old Hayward is just another case of out with the old and in with the nike..... like the pit.

It's not so much that they finally closed the doors on WWI era McArthur Court - it was decrepit and needed to be replaced. It's that the building they built to replace it is such a soul-less blimp hangar. Built as a status symbol more than as a place to watch basketball. Named for a person who never attended uo. I expect the same result from their new Phil Knight (formerly Hayward) Field.

Bill Dellinger was their Mike Riley but he is dead and can't come back. Dellinger won. National Championships. Bill Dellinger's teams (5) actually won more NCAA championships than Bowerman's (4). So the Riley analogy is not well taken. Oh and BTW Bill Dellinger is still alive.

No. They had already reduced its capacity from 10K to 7800. That primarily wood structural frame was not in conformance with current seismic and fire codes. Any “major renovation” would have had to be a total gut and rebuild in place all the way down to the foundations. And where do they play MBB, WBB, VB in the 2 year meantime - Gill?
